I am desperate:confused: for a game that is a racing sim, and has real world tracks, and stock production cars. Sort of like Gran Turismo, but for PC. If you have any ideas, tell me...
Thanks ahead Mr.Liht$ter
Videoslave;4845519Dirt is a good one if you like offroad racing.
For what he's looking for, GRID would be a lot closer. DiRT is also horribly optimized compared to GRID. He said he was looking for SIM specific racing of the Gran Turismo type though, thus the GT category PC SIM titles I referred him to. However if you disable all driver assists in GRID, it's fairly close to being SIM racing and a great game for transitioning from arcade to SIM. There's really nothing quite like GRID, it's a great game.

On a forum I go to, games like GRID and Trackmania are popular. Like Gran Turismo, they have powerful graphics and use real-life vehicles. Those are the closest I can think of.
You can acquire both of them off Steam.

I've heard a lot of comments about Trackmania here, even when people ask about SIM titles. Despite my vague recollection of it being very arcade-like stunt racing, I decided to look into the latter incarnations of it to see if it had evolved into something more realistic. Sure enough, Trackmania still remains as one of the most absurd forms of racing games.
You have what appear to be fairly realistic looking F1 type cars racing on extremely fictional tracks something akin to Speedracer. Not only that, the physics are more over the top than most arcade racers, allowing ridiculous jumps and cramming a massive amount of cars jammed together on one track with little to no speed or performance penalty when hitting one another.
From the videos I've seen it appears there's a heavy amount of built in no-clip and/or self-alignment buffer when cars "collide", which isn't even the word I'd use to describe car to car contact in this game. Trackmania does not even remotely belong in the SIM category of racing. A game with Speedracer-like tracks/physics combined with real world looking cars makes no sense whatsoever.
Feel my heat, Heavens on fire.

The upcoming Need for Speed Shift looks like it'll be a game to keep an eye on since the team who worked on Project Gotham Racing are working on the game.
