max payne II was one of the first games that I really liked of this genre. The next that I liked was Hitman - the latest one - I don't remember what it was called (I gave it to a friend after I played it out). the earlier hitman editions were not as enjoyable, nor were the earlier max payne. I didn't like true crime at all. for multiplayer FPS - my favorites are: COD, COD/UO, and an oldie: Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3.

In my opinion, Max Payne is basically a movie, in which you operate the main character.

Now, I would reccomend the Hitman series as well. It has a lot of the same 'moody' gameplay. True Crime isn't a great game - not even by a longshot. If you're looking for a suburban crime game, you just have to go with the Grand Theft Auto games. Atari recently came out with a good game, that is smiliar to Max Payne as well; Indigo Prophecy.

I've played the indogo prophecy game (in Europe known as Fahrenheit). It was VERY VERY good and I have to say the best game I have ever played. So I suppose I was looking for a game along the lines of that type of style and gameplay.

I almost bought that recently having seen it used at EB. I passed because it seemd to be described on the box as a mystery adventure game, rather than a shooter. Am I wrong, can you describe it a bit?

I didn't really like the dream scenes in Max Payne, I can handle a little stuff like that, but I prefer it to be mostly a shooter.

Indigo Prophecy is not a shooter game it is more of a mystery game where by any actions you perform in the game dictate what ending the game has. As far as i'm aware you dont actually get to hold any guns in the game. The game also has some cool action sequences.
