Doom 3 is the best thing to play in the dark, especially with denton's enhanced Doom 3 mod, it gives Doom 3 Bloom and HDR filtering.

Serio;4980771Side note, but from what I can tell the Penumbra series was designed specifically to make you go check your heartbeat each minute. There's a huge amount of those "Oh, good thing I'm safe in here", followed by the immediate Alt-F4 combination when a creature leaps at you from a vent.[/QUOTE] Agreed. Definitely agree with this one.
You should buy Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing just to see how horribly scary and bad it is.
I didn't make it!
There's a game for the Microsoft Zune called Gold Chase. Seriously, this game scares the crap out of me even if its not dark out. But really, its stupid unless you like collecting gold in a dungeon with big scary monsters chasing you with creepy music playing. =p
On the PC/360 I thought F.E.A.R. was a really scary one. And Half-Life 2 isn't that scary but still when those Zombies sneak up behind you... :)

>Omen<;4982355A lot of people say that, but I find it's just right for a game of this type. Resident Evil is a game with very clunky no-strafe, no-sprint movement. Dead Space's movement falls somewhere between RE and your typical shooter, leaning way more toward the typical.
The intent was to create a sense of panic with the combination of close range weapons and melee (foot stomping, weapon smacking) in a 3rd person perspective without severely limiting your movement. You DO have a heavy mining suit on though, so you can only sprint short distances.
Thanks. I think I'll pick it up on Steam then once I get my new laptop :)
I also want to throw a vote in for the Penumbra series. I got the entire series on sale on Steam for $5 and it was extremely worth it. It's been on sale a few times, so it might be worth waiting for a sale.
Does Bioshock count for scary? I mean the atmosphere and everything.... Plus STALKER, well this one not so much. Only the labs have the scary moments and out in the open only 2 types of creatures can scare then crap out of you. The atmosphere is otherwise pretty barren and scary too. P.S. no matter how much you are prepared for a bloodsucker, if you never learn how to spot them before they are visible, you. will. be. browning. your. pants. when. they. appear.
Silent Hill 2 is creepy enough that you could blast off on your involuntary pants-pissing, in the dark or not. Good luck trying to find an emulator, though...IMO Silent Hill 2 is as of this writing, the apex of atmospheric storytelling. Doom 3 comes close behind. I haven't played many other games that made me scared...
SHELLSHOCK 2 !!!! Has anyone tried it yet?
I second F.E.A.R. I still don't want to reinstall it because it freaked me out.
I would say Dead Space as well, along with Bioshock, FEAR, and Doom 3. Maybe Prey, the way it starts is epic, but i didn't find it as scary as the others. I would say Dead Space will scare the crap out of you more than any of the others will.

This is all you need. It scared me shitless. Actually, I've never finished it. It's devilishly hard at some points. But it is a truly scary game. And if you've read Shadow Over Insmouth or any other Lovecraft stories, it makes it even better.
