I think they made a mistake by shutting down. Will they ever come back?

I don't know how to tell you this but...

Gamespy won't come back. It's gone. It's offline. It has said "Ciao!" and left Italy without looking back. It has found a place to settle down, and it will not return your calls no matter how many times you try to call it. It has retired to a small cottage. It has changed career.

In short, no. It will not come back.

or did they just get tired of running it. When I played online I never had any problems with it. What about the gamers who play through Gamespy.

It was a old system that did not evolve as it grew a bit like Xfire. Actually does anyone here still use Xfire ? I know I logged in a few weeks ago to see a few old face that had not logged in for years either.

more then likely the gaming companies stopped using Gamespy and moved on to something else. So with no gaming companies using/moving away from that software for their games, Gamespy slowly died off.

Nothing. What happened was that developers used there ingame server browsers, friends systems and chat. Then there was the rise of Steam which got a lot better and things like EAs Origin that caters just for EA games and UPlay so Gamespy was not needed any more.
