OK some games already have screenshots even like 2 years before for example 'The Getaway'(Which many people said was crappy) already had screenshots back in the year 2000 and yet the game was released in 2003. How do those guys actually get those screenshots when the game is like just started development? I hope you all understand what I mean since I don't really know how to express the question.
Yeah, I do. They just release a few ...Alpha...shots of the game. Back in 2000? I first heard of it in '01. I mean, all they have to do is show whatever they want. They could show one polygon with a smiley face and call it the next GTA if they wanted, it just keeps people interested.
Speaking of long-time developement, anyone remember the game to test the graphics abilities of XBOX named Malice? Yeah, it came out on Xbox and PS2 and got 4's....out of ten. We heard of that in '01 and it came out yesterday. lol

If they've already develeped a part of the engine, they can take a screenshot from that I suppose. And generally they do develop the engine first... hard to design a level or any characters or gameplay of any sort without it :p
The engine is definitely the first thing to happen. Then, the basic graphics, then programming, then updated graphics, sound and anything else left that needs to be done.
well...sometimes...the engine is borrowed...but you all got it stright
No! I'm Spamacus!

Not to mention some people who pirate leaked alphas/betas.
I programmed a fun game of tic tac toe the other day. No graphics, just code. You had to remember where everyone moved.
