Firstly, I did a quick search through the forums, and could not find a thread like this. Well, not a recent one.
There is this thread (http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?t=231491) but I do not think that disscusses wether or not graphics are getting better. If you disagree, please lock or delete this thread. Thanks.
Now, the question. How much better can graphics get? Only a few years ago, graphics were very good at that time. But 10 years later, graphics are nearly as good looking as real life  (as long as you are up to date with technology).
What do you think is going to happen to graphics? Are we going to be able to interact with graphics soon? Are we going to 'feel' graphics? Are graphics taking over gameplay, and gameplay is not a factor anymore?
Share your thoughts.

Japan is releasing a holographic player next year. You insert a CD and it presents a 3d holographic image right in front of you. I think something like the holodeck from Star Trek will be the next big thing.:)

I was just about to say that, I think so too.
I think that graphics will stop improving for the mean time so developers can focus on things like gameplay... destructable enviroments, physics etc.
But the potential for graphics is unlimited!
I think 2d graphics will be the mainstream until everything looks photographic at any moment.
I take what n0e says way too seriously

I think with current technology, we'd only be able to go one more generation. After that, the console's would have to adopt holography, virtual reality, or something of the sort. Compare the systems in the early 90's to those of now. If you assume the same amount of improvement is going to take place for a while, something new is definitely going to be needed.
