I think its pretty good. Its pretty in depth. Thats what I like about it.
Ive'd played the demo and for me it was play it once means you've played it 1,000 times. Or mybe it was just the demo but the lan play seemed good to me.
The graphics are awesome for 2D. No, they aren't snazzy 3D graphics, but they are very nice. You can see each individual unit loading or throwing their weapon, etc. For each age (Ancient, Classical, Medieval, Gunpowder, Enlightenment, Industrial, Modern and Information) the basic units you start with are upgraded and they get new textures. Also, there are texture sets. These are more apparent during the Industrial (WW1), Modern (WW2-1950's) and Information (Now) ages. So for example, Germany gets the King Tiger as a texture and a special unit (only unique WW2 tank unit). The Russians get the T-34, but just as a texture. America gets the Sherman, and Britan gets the Churchill. Of course, Asian countries get the Ha-Go and countries that never historically made their own tanks get purchased tanks of all the kinds listed, excluding the Churchill and King Tiger. Those kinds of countries also get Panzer IV's, too. Each country also gets a texture set of planes, infantry, armored cars, mobile flak guns, artillery, etc. This goes on with the Information Age. So you see, this game is very VERY detailed. Also, the expansion includes 4 single player campaigns, which are very in depth and challenging. My personal favorite is the Cold War campaign. :) The Americans are also in the expansion back, along with Native American tribes such as the Lakota and Iroquois. There is also the Persians, Indians and Dutch. Combined with the original game, that makes 24 playable nations, each with it's own advantages, along with special units. I enjoy the Russian, German and American special units. Finally, this game is not for everyone. If you are curious, go to the website and try either of the demos (one for main game, one for expansion). I have been recently playing this a lot online with friends, and it is a total blast. :D http://www.microsoft.com/games/riseofnations/default.asp

Actually the Russian and German special MBTs are NOT just textures (the actual word you're looking for being models); they have slightly higher attack ratings and possibly hitpoints than the standard MBTs. Generally, if it's listed as a unique unit by the game, it will not just look different but be different. But for the most part he's right.
it's a nice rts game, but not really my taste...

Go to options, there is a setting on how quickly it will take before idle citizens go find work, and what type of work they will do.
RON is the best strategy game you can get. Excellent. The graphics are outdated, but its all in the gameplay anyways. Excellent game.

If it could have the graphics of Rome: Total War it would simply be amazing...
