I don't know if it's just me, but almost everyone on my friends list is playing Call of Duty 4 consistently. It almost seems embarrassing to play Halo 3 now. Now, Halo 3 is a fun game, designed for a large variety of players, so why is Call of Duty 4, a more hardcore shooter, doing so well? I think that there are a few factors: -Weapons: There's so many of them that not liking any is just being difficult. -Ranking System: It is extremely addicting for a ranking system. You get points for just about everything you can do. It goes beyond just getting kills, assists, or just winning or losing. There are tons of in-game Achievement-like challenges to complete. There are so many that you can just use whatever weapons you want to and still complete challenges. They're not real Achievements, so no Gamerscore boosting, but also no "Line up so I can Splazer you!"-ing. The ranking system in COD 4 just begs for you to play a little more, and it helps keep the gaming environment competitive. -Great graphics, near-perfect controls, and little to no lag: The fact that the game looks so great and the framerate stays above 60 at all times is just amazing. The controls are a perfect fit for the multiplayer, and are even better than Halo 3's controls. COD 4 wins in this section. -Fast Pacing: If you wanna survive, you need to keep moving. Fast. There are a lot of times in the game when you need to just throw in a flash or a frag, run in there, shoot a few dudes, reload, knife, shoot some more in someone's general direction, and keep running. It's times like those that keep the game really fun. Speaking of fast pacing, this brings on one last reason: -Adrenaline Rushes: Playing the game can be like riding a rollercoaster. It seems okay at first, then at the first drop you get a little nervous, and by the end of the ride, you want to go again and again (even if you're terrified of it, in my case). There's so much that can happen in less than a minute in COD 4, it's ridiculous. What do you think?
Holy crap! Why are so many people starting threads comparing good games against Halo 3? I say enough, we all know that halo is inferior to most of the great fps games on the PC at the moment.
Most of Halo's weapons looked like their designed by Hasbro.
What you need to ask yourself, are there any really unique features about Halo 3? If there isn't then it's obvious other games will do better than it.
I'm just saying, is it killing Halo 3? Judging from the responses, I'm the only one who's noticed anything.
weapons: halo 3 features far more variety in both styler and gameplay, where CoD4's weapons are all VERY similar.
fast pace: Halo is far more fast-paced that CoD 4.
Adrenaline rush: I get my adrenaline up in Halo 3 more that I ever have in CoD4, this may be because of the pace of the game, or perhaps it is because you are almost always fighting instead of taking cover in Halo 3 (Because Halo 3 doesn't need to try to be realistic, which CoD4 is not)
halo 3 is a great game. its just that it is safe. it takes no leaps forward or steps backward. maybe half a step forward. because of the multiplayer which is great fun thats all. and i guess the theater can also give it a few points.
Unless halo 3 comes up with more equipment, so much so that you can practically build a mini camp/fort/base/what-have-you. Then yes i probably feel that CoD4 is "killing" Halo 3.
My only difference view on them is the multiplayer rewards.

Maybe is just because CoD4 is more fun multiplayer, and is something new? Halo 3 isn't. Its just more of the same Halo gameplay and weapons, and people get bored of something after playing it for that long. Another thought, it might be because CoD4 isn't based in a Sci-Fi future.
I like both games multiplayer, but CoD4 is more fun if you ask me.
I didn't make it!
They're both amazing games. I just seem to be more of a reality gamer. I like playing games where stuff is really happening in this world. I don't like the really fictional games as much. Although they are fun. I love the constant action sounds in CoD4's Multiplayer. Great frame rate. It's flawless.
