I think they are good for you to a point.

As stated before, they can increase your cognitive abilities (if only slightly), arguably give you some more social skills (learning to talk to a variety of people) and can relieve stress.

However, if you stay in the wrong communities for too long (think of stereotypical Xbox Live) I think it'll turn you into a dick. I like the TF2 PC community cause most of them seem like they're just having fun, and whenever someone comes in screaming 'noob faggot' they get booted.

Also, lack of exercise etc is a bit bad. My legs and arms are pretty much fucked since I got a job and are travelling a lot more than during the summer.

Oh, and finally - games have truly fucked up my sleeping patterns. I stay up to play with my American mates on one particular game.

The 'psycho creating' implication of video games is bullshit.

I don't know if this is still true, but gaming was found to help kids with ADHD with their attention span. Discover Magazine even ran an article on how some help you cognitively (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and WoW were given as good examples).

Well, I don't know if it stimulates the mind and prevents Alzheimer's Disease, but it sure stimulates something. :lulz:

If word gets out about this, Devs will be putting "ADHD approved" on the box. LOL

Seriously though, I can see how that would be true. I have a neighbor that's much younger than me with ADHD whom casually games but most of his time is spent watching TV. I try to get him to play some of the games I've liked but he's pretty lazy about it and procrastinates a lot.
