This Friday, the 6th of April, marks the beginning of PAX East 2012, and there's a rumour floating about that Electronic Arts and Bioware may have an "amazing"(as described in the article below) announcement to make regarding either the Mass Effect franchise, or just Mass Effect 3.

ThatVideoGameBlogME3 forum user CaptainDope recently posted that he’d met Lance Henriksen, voice of Admiral Hackett, at a Swedish sci-fi convention over the weekend. According to Henriksen, BioWare are prepping a “big and amazing” Mass Effect 3 announcement for PAX this Friday.

Assuming it holds water, I don't think it's a very good decision for Bioware to be announcing anything about that game so soon after its release. Especially not if it's downloadable content.

Something tells me it's going to be regarding the ending of the game, in which case, the sooner they announce something, the sooner they stop receiving hate mail and cupcakes.

They have been resistant towards any notion of changing the ending, though. I suppose extending the ending can't be ruled out, given the other rumours regarding the "Truth" DLC.

RUMOR: Mass Effect 3 DLC ‘The Truth’ Due In April. | GameFront

If the above is true, I might just have regained some degree of trust with Bioware. I think I might just wait with purchasing Mass Effect 3 until this is either confirmed or denied, as I hate completing a game, starting another, then having to return to the game again so soon afterwards. Of course, it could all be bogus and they could be planning a multiplayer only pack of content.

With words like "Big and amazing" - they have to be addressing the ending, to my mind at least. Otherwise it's pure trolling.

The ending may be adjusted as part of "The Truth" DLC - which may have changed in scope. Hopefully this means you don't need a new playthrough to get a resolution to all the hanging questions and so forth.

I have my suspicions that a major DLC which influences the story or the ending was planned all along, or at least for a considerable time, simply because of the game defaulting back towards the point in the story before the Cerberus HQ attack after the credits.

"Big and amazing." Just buzzwords to incite excitement into fans. Watch it be paid ending DLC (EA doesn't believe in free DLC anymore), or DLC that had the real ending all along like Mr. Fancypants is eluding to. We'll still see people throw money at a new ending despite it being an obvious rip-off.

That would be amazingly good business strategy on their part - piss of fans with a fake ending and sell them the right one later. It is probably more realistic that they just fucked up and now see the opportunity to make some additional money out of it though.

Another possibility is that they'll expand on the multiplayer aspect. Truth be told, that cooperative multiplayer is not bad at all (from a gameplay perspective, technically it still has lots of bugs).

Once in a while even turds can look big and amazing, as if you didn't realize all that humongous crap was in you.

Seriously though, I'm a bit fed up with ME3 because I've patiently waited without watching alternative endings on YouTube so I can see if it's possible to get the Synthesis ending option via just sp play.

According to IGNs info you only need 2800 EMS points to unlock it, so I trudged on making sure on my last run through I got 100% of all assets and did all missions possible. Even with that I wound up with a 2724 EMS rating at the start of Priority: Earth, what appeared to be a lousy 76 points shy of filling the EMS bar.

I have no doubt that requiring mp play to get enough EMS points for alternative endings was likely insisted on by EA, in an attempt to further sell their craptastic Origin BS. The only reason I have to play ME anymore is to see what the first two installments were like, and to play ME3 on Hardcore and Insanity with a fresh vs import start.

At this point I can't say I care much about the ME story though, because this ridiculous anxiety ride of frustrating curiosity they put you through and the micro managing it takes to get all missions done without being locked out of some for merely doing them in the wrong order leaves me very apathetic.

I've not read any spoilers (though I will admit I know a tad bit more than I'd like to, but nothing too major), and here I'm hoping that BioWare does something about the ending. From what I hear, it's basically, "choose first option: lose everything. choose second option: lose everything."

Still looking forward to finding out on my own, though.

From what I read you need 4000 effective strength to unlock all ending options. That would be very difficult to get with SP only. You don't just need to find all the assetts hidden on various planets, you also need to make the "right" decisions in all 3 games to get that many points.
