NGS is the best series to me and has the best story of any game, some may think it's weird or odd but thats what makes it great and interesting.

It's incredibly innovative, but one thing that kind of makes me stop and think is the market. The Japanese developers of this game made it for an entriely Western audience, their own eastern gamers were never the target market. This is only a little point, and MGS is an awesome series, but the idea that Japanese developers are targeting exclusively Western audiences is a little economically scary.

I disagree with what you said about him combining the "realism" - MGS is not realistic  However, it kicks major arse, and is definately one of the best action series' around.

Storylines get a little confusing from time to time, but that's part of the fun I feel. The games - graphics aside - simply do not age. And it's all delivered with a cinematic, epic feeling.

An easy recommendation to anyone who hasn't played the series yet.

Well that depends on how you look at it. The way the enemies move is more realistic than any other game I can think of. But the bosses are quite unrealistic.

But the MG series is by far my favourite series of games ever made. I love the story lines in the games especially when you figure something out for the first time. I mean even with MGS2, I still find out new things everytime I complete that game. "So thats why he said that particular obscure remark near the begining of the game" Never mind unlocking special items for completing the game a few times, the MG series unlocks more of the story the more you complete it.
