I'm going to start with the ass-kissing and get to the bare essentials. Visually, stunning, it has gives you a great feel for the environment and events taking place around you. Storyline, excellent, the immersion is great and it sets the stage of a horrific nightmare world of mutants and villains.

But to stray away from that, I found the damage system to be less to my (notice the word my) liking as I was in various scenarios were a rifle shot to the head of a vicious dog did nothing more than agitate it. I liked how the condition part of the damage system tied in but the system itself seemed flawed to me. The Vats system however brought my interest back with the precision finisher moves.

Now to some nit pickings. The flash light in the game is utterly pointless, they might as well have given you a candle. There a few glitches in the game where you can walk into a crevasse and not be able to walk out, which causes frustration if you're mid-mission and have to start over from a check point. The list of creatures, characters, and robots is nice because it gives you plenty of variations between fights. One minute you could be fighting giant insects and the next be destroying robots.

Overall I thought the game was well worth the money and definitely worthy of many awards.

Yeah I got the game the other day and it's pretty neat. The flashlight can be useful at times, but the range of it is really limited, that's my only complaint. I'm trying to go on the good path on my first run, then go evil on the next run like I normally do on other rpg games, so far it's been a blast. I can't wait to get some of the big guns like the flamethrower or the fat boy nuke launcher.

I swiped a flamethrower off of a raider early on in the game, it's a good weapon to have around.

Hmm where did you find that? I might not be as far as you, but I'm level 5 right now and up north right now looking for the "west family". I picked up a mini gun from one of the super mutated brutes, but that's the only big gun I found so far.

You're about as far as I am. I'm at Level 5 and I'm looking for the GNR Building. I've got a minigun, missile launcher, flamethrower, hunting rifle, assault rifle, various pistols, and a laser rifle.

Some of you may know I have knocked FO3 pretty hard in previous posts, well now let me explain why. I understand some want a lot of RPG elements. I just feel they weighed the game down so heavily with nonsense ones you're left feeling like you have to wade through a lot of inadequacies in weaponry and other skills, doing oft times ridiculous tasks just to get a basic skill set and arsenal going.

I prefer a more STALKER-like beginning to an RPG/FPS game, where the focus is more on scavenging, survival, and territorial disputes, vs a library of skills and near useless tasks that you can easily get bored with well before you get to the point of feeling confident in battles. I don't like spending a lot of time feeling like I'm not making much progress. Nor do I like a game that relies on shooting quite a bit to have such lousy shooting mechanics.

Why this game gets raved about so much is beyond me.

fallout 3 rocks your socks. right off. but yeah, the only issue i have is the real time combat is a bit irritating, giving it a real time combat engine like CoD would kick ass. and yeah, shooting a dog in the head and watching it jump right back at you is annoying. excellent game nonetheless, but i feel its wiki has ruined it for me. don't think i will read any more of it.

Very true, it's almost useless to go into a battle without VATS with the way it's set up.

I agree, a CoD-essce targeting system along with VATS would make for much better gun battles. Aiming down your sights in the game for the most part is useless because it doesn't zoom very far.

Try fist fighting with a mirelurk in your undies or sexy sleepwear. I'm not a strength or unarmed fan/player, and it was HELL. Not only that he decided to call his friends along wasted about 20 stimpaks for me....
