Hey Guys, Atm my Pc's Specs are as follows: Intel P4 Core 2 Due 3.6ghz 2GB DDR2 533 RAM Radeon 9550 256MB AGP Okay, atm i have Oblivion running at absolute LOWEST graphics and even in small towns such as Bravil or Anvil i get a shocking max FPs of 16, and when im in the forest it goes down to 7! Now i guess my video card is to blame...so...which video card should i get? My MotherBoard doesnt support PCI-E so i gotaa stick with AGP...yeah...sucks... I'm thinking i should go with the GeForce 7950GT or The X1950Pro. Whcih of those two are better?, or should i go with another Video Card? Thanx.

From my observations the four big factors in determining frame rate are:

Antialiasing Resolution Shadows (especially tree canopy shadows) Grass density

I suggest you have a look at the Tweakguides page on Oblivion, especially for the Oblivion.ini file tweaks.

TweakGuides.com - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Tweak Guide

I suggest adjusting the iMinGrassSize= setting in that file to something a bit higher. The guide suggests a value of 120 to improve frame rate without thinning out grass too much, but go with whatever suits you.

Failing that, you could fall back on the Low Poly Grass mod, The Elder Scrolls Source - LowPoly Grass

As for AA and screen resolution, if your monitor supports 1600x1200, I suggest using that setting and disabling AA for optimal performance, but AA at 2x shouldn't cause too much trouble.

Disable canopy shadows! I cannot stress this enough. In my experience, it causes a tremendous drain on frame rate, which to me, is not worth it for something as petty as tree shadows.

7950Gt is better but you could save the money for 8800GTS 320 wich is far better than those two

Upgrading your vid card to the ones you listed would be a waste of time and money. If your going to upgrade your card you upgrade it by a generation, not a slight incrimate. Get a 8800GTS if money is a concern and most of your FPS issues will solve themselves. BTW. What kind of ram do you have? Gaming ram or generic stuff? 1 Gig of OCZ Platinum is probably better than 2 gig of generic corsair. just saying.

Nevermind. i re-read your post and saw that your stuck using AGP. not a whole lot you can do other get a moderatly better vid card but first chance you get, get a new Mobo

Dont go out and buy another AGP card. Save up for a new Mobo and a PCI-Express videocard. You'll need a better PSU too. Or you can simply download Oldblivion. Which is here. Like Jose Carlos said. Its made PC's MUCH lower than yours be able to play Oblivion

Your machine spec is more than capable for Oblivion. So... you have a problem somewhere else. Try system restore (and defrag f you have 2). Most importantly get rid of as many of the taskbar/startup(regedit) progs as you can. Switch off your virus scanner when gaming offline, theze can eaty 50% of system resources.

Uh, I need help on this as well. I'm getting between 0-10 fps outdoors with minimum graphics on the following system: AMD Athlon 64 x2 @ 2.8 Ghz 2 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 800 mhz Geforce GTX 260 @ 620/1300/2200

I get 30+ fps in Crysis with the ultra-high config and natural mod, yet can't get 10 on Oblivions lowest settings!?!

You just revived a two-year-old thread for this. >_<

Anyway, what operating system are you on?
