As long as you don't get a game called Halo. People call it one of the best games ever but it rivals the Sims in over hyped terribleness.

Yeah, thats one game to stay well away from. If you see it in a shop, put it in the cornor on the florr and run away till you are about 50 miles away from the scene of the crime.

Hey Fred, personally, i would suggest picking up a gaming magazine (something like Pczone or PcGamer), reading some of the reviews and they both have a nice list of recommended games for each genre which will give you an idea of what to pick up, plus they both come with demo cd/dvd's so you can try out some games before you dive in and purchase them.

It IS easy though. And unfortunately for the reputation of the genre, it does follow a standard pattern that many FPS games follow. If you happen to have access to a copy without paying for it, it might be worth playing through to just get into it easily.

YOu guys have been a big help. I dont even have a game controller yet. just a mouse. lol I will see what the prices are on a pc game controller at gamestop here in tampa. I like the idea of the magazine and will pick up a copy soon. I prefer the strategy and simulation games over the rambo type shoot em ups.

DO NOT GET COUNTER-STRIKE. It's a waste of money and a waste of time. Nothing but fluff only thing that makes it barely playable is custom models. And don't waste your time on a controller if your going to be playing FPS's. Keyboard and Mouse is far better.
