Call me crazy, but uh, what technology is in these things that makes them about as expensive as a console?

I genuinely do not know. I assumed they were just controllers with motion tracking in them?

Not all that unexpected to be honest.

Everyone assumed that the $600 Rift + Oculus Touch would be in the $800-$850 range putting it right at where the Vive is.

I understand it's expected, but given what is actually in the device, is it justified, is what I am wondering?

Possibly.  I mean mankind, for the past 30 years, has been searching very hard for a means to bridge the gap between games and reality.  At this point, and with all the possibilities available, it seems not that bad  of a deal.  This is escapism at its greatest, at least for now, so it stands to reason that it would on some level be worth the price.

Right, but what is physically in this thing that makes it so expensive, or is it just a Wii controller with a high price?

I suspect it's the latter. However, strictly from an ergonomic point of view, I would prefer it over the Wii controller.

Patents; the most expensive technology of all.
