I didn't make it!
Hi, Two things I hate about online gaming, are cheating and lag. I am trying to figure out if people think that LAG is the biggest problem, or if CHEATING is a bigger problem... feel free to discuss here. Thanks, Harlan

Lag can't be helped. Some 56k users, for example, aren't able to upgrade because broadband may not be available where they live. I live in a major residential area in the centre of a large town and broadband was only just activated here last December. So there was nothing I could do about my ping. It's not their fault, and they shouldn't be prevented from playing online because of their tight-fisted service providers. And if the lag is caused by the server, then there's a simple solution: switch to a better server. And if the lag is caused by the game itself, then there's not much that can be done. That aspect annoys me in that the game developers should have tested something as obvious as lag, but there's nothing to do but hope for a patch that fixes it. It doesn't annoy me, but it doesn't please me either. Cheating, on the other hand, is done deliberately, by people seeking an unfair advantage over other players, usually with the intent to piss them off or just appear superior to them. There's nothing worse than cheating at anything, let alone a game where people are trying to have fun.

Although lag in a server is annoying, it can't be helped by the user with the bad ping. I think that if a user with a bad connection goes into a server and gets a bad ping rate which is slowing down the whole server, they should leave, although this leaves them with a problem that they may end up not getting into any servers because of their bad pings. Cheating is just wrong, and ruins the game worse than lag. Teamkilling is worse than both those though, that is REALLY annoying.
No! I'm Spamacus!

Today there are lag hacks that cause extreme packet loss in order for the player to cheat more easily. They can go hand in hand. :uhm:
It's been quite some time since I've played with a cheater, though. Guess I am just lucky.
I like you

Lag can be helped. When I was a 56ker I just didn't play online. Well not much. I played two games rarely. I play UT2003 with friends but not often and I also played Global Operations [I was unaware of CS!]. Cheating is way way worse though. It's just malicious. Well actually, it's morally worse, but having some prat going around invincible is probably better than watching a slide show...
Where is the internet?

[/I]I have resorted to cheating in single player games, but not in multiplayer. If I wouldn't have used cheats i would still be at the first level of the game. You need to use thenm to get a go on in the game, otherwise you're just repeating the same scenes over and over to complete that level . (im speaking for someone who is not a newbie but on the other hand not a gaming wizard).

I have a cable connection, and often get bad ping counts with on-line games. ...I'd say distance is a big factor, as well as how well you're PC is running....it's a bit of a bummer when you can\t play in a server cause of bad lag. Cheating is far worse than lag. Lag is being optimized every day, I think I read somewhere that World of Warcraft can be played with a 56k modem, played decently well too. Its all about optimizing bandwith.
Cheating on the other hand is much worse. If a pc game is released and ends up being succeptible to cheating(through hacks) then the game has no chance.
