This footage has been doing the rounds for a couple of days now, but it's looking f'ing sweet.
This might be interesting. I don't like the scenario (sort of Starsiege Tribes I guess?) that much, but large persistent worlds plus FPS-like controls make for interesting games.
I wonder how well this will work performance wise. The reason so many MMORPGs have this strange WoW-combat mode is that having more than 100 people on one server creates latency problems, especially if those people come from different continents.
It worked fine with the last Planetside - and most of the upgrades look like they'd be a client side thing. Fancier graphics shouldn't cost you bandwidth.
Physics might, I suppose. Depending on how you did it.
Will the Planetside 2 beta key be on the app version of PC Gamer?

This is one of the very few MMORPG's I'm actually looking forward to. I thoroughly enjoyed the original Planetside, especially those massive battles where hundreds of players tried to conquer a base. I like the graphical style too.
I'm interested, but not too eager about getting my money sucked away every month and my soul every second.
They're going with a free to play model - as I recall.
Can't do anything about the soul though. But really - have you ever seen your soul? I don't know why you humans are so particular about where you keep your souls....
According to this;
While Planetside 2 will launch as as free-to-play title with a cash item shop for cosmetic items and “sidegrade gear,” the dev team was adamant that there would be no “pay-to-win” items.
It will indeed be free to play. It seems like more and more games are turning free to play, either with a one-time purchase(Guild Wars 2) or with a premium subscription feature. I hope it wont degrade the overall quality of the game, as happens to some games.
