Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has managed to win out in the Steam Awards to be crowned the 2018 Game of the Year, against rivals such as Hitman 2, Monster Hunter: World and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
It's good news for PUBG, who lost out in Golden Joystick awards, when rival Battle Royale Fortnite took the top title, to the surprise of many. In his acceptance video, Playeruknown spoke of how the award came as a surprise and how they continue to strive to make the most realistic Battle Royale game there is.

Another GameFront favourite, Rocket League, came in with the "Most Fun with a Machine" award, while CD Projekt Red scooped up two awards with both the "Best Developer" award, and the "Best Environment" award for The Witcher III.

Elsewhere, Rockstar picked up the Labor of Love award for Grand Theft Auto V, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim won VR Game of the Year. Yep, it's still winning awards, even in 2019.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (All Rights Reserved) Siege won the Better with Friends category, something I have to agree with wholeheartedly, and finally Assassin's Creed Odyssey also didn't home empty handed, picking up the "Best Alternate History" award.

So what do you think of the winners? Let us know in the comments below!

What about Euro Truck Simulator 2, or American Truck Simulator?

I never really took the Steam Awards seriously with how some recurring title were gonna win anyways, but congrats I guess?

I will admit that some games which truly deserved the awards were not even on the vote list. For example, the aforementioned Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator deserve a lot more attention than they get.

Right you are, that's not the first voting which didn't include some good positions. Unfortunately, there always exist well-done games with too small players base.

Another well-done game with too small a player base is Banished. I am baffled by how few have even heard of Banished, even though it is one of the best city building games out there. You want engaging? You need to micromanage EVERYTHING. You cannot take your concentration away for even a minute, or something will go horribly wrong, and everyone will die.

For that matter, what about those of us who grew up in the classic era of platforming games, such as Banjo Kazooie? Snake Pass is exactly that, but in today's engine. Also, it is adorable.

They definitely deserve some Steam Awards.
