I understand it's a low-budget project that not too many people know of, but if this series is new to all of you, I'm leaving this forum for more enlightened people.
Dominions is a fantasy RTS game that plays, genre-wise, like the Total War and Heroes of Might and Magic series. As a Pretender God in charge of a nation, you are to lead your fatherland in a Crusade against the other heathen nations of the world, killing them off until only your faith is left in the world. Then you shall be God.
The Dominions games are special in that they are very, very detailed. While other game developers strive for graphics, graphics, and more graphics, the Dominions series' goal has always been quantity. The game boasts more than one and a half thousand units, lots of magic items and spells, and a good handful of great maps. On top of it all: Fifty very different civilizations.
Illwinter is also great at making demos, so head over and download the huge Dominions II demo. It has a bit of a learning curve, and it's not for those of you who hate poor graphics, but it's truly great if you like deep strategy games. X-Com fans might have a ball with the depth of this one.
I, for one, am a loyal Dominions player, and so the news of this new sequel really made my day (although, of course, I've known about it for some time.. But the press release and screenshots I found only today, so meh).
