it is time i put away childish things. i plan to start with my GameCube, which provided countless hours of quality entertainment, but now i am an adult. and i want an adult toy. and that toy MUST be a PS2. it seems odd that a new version of an existing console would be CHEAPER than its predecessor. are there any features i would sacrifice in buying the new, slimmer PS2? i am CRAZY for fantasy and role playing games, and i do not play online through my gaming consoles. is this slim, less expensive unit what i want, or is it too god to be true? also, i have read a great many posts, and some of you people are horrifyingly geeky, with an almost dangerous devotion to the world of fantasy you live through your games. i feel like i am home after a long and lonely trek through a barren wasteland of tedium. "there is no emoticon to express what i am feeling..."
As far as I have read the ps2 "thin" price is going to be $150 but has all the fuctionality of the PS2 except and HD bay(so FF:XI is out if you want that) Calling the game cube "chilidish"? The resident evil games on there are not for childern. And what if you want to play any of the GC zelda games(windwaker and the new zelda title comming out)? I don't play Fantisy games so i can't give any advice. There are some geeky people in every game genre though so don't be alarmed:D.
i will ALWAYS pull out my GameCube for a Zelda game... i gather the HDD is an add on to the original PS2 for specific games and is not required for ALL games, which was my original concern. can anyone give me a "hayell-ya!" on this speculation?
Ah, finally moving on eh?
The new Ps2 has 2 drawbacks, it can't play FFXI, and i have heard rumors that it doesn't play some old PS2 games.
Have fun with the new PS2, you lucky bastard (i bought a new "fat" PS2 3 days before the new "thin" one came out).
yeah, even Sony admits to the thin PS2 not playing ALL the games, but apparently they are the same older games that the big boy has difficulty with as well. it sounds like it possesses the same capablities in terms of reading the discs, but it lacks the internal configuration for the add on HDD, which seems to be rarely needed. that is my thinking at least. i heard the next generation PS3 will automatically return itself to Sony (airfare paid), and courier a new 4th generation PlayStation directly to you when the time is right...so don't feel bad about skipping an upgrade between PS2widebody and PS3.
I heard that the Thin PS2 didn't play DVDs? But that's probally not true LOL...
BTW, one non kiddy but good GC game is Metroid prime and Metriod Prime 2, both are great.
Wow, I never knew that the PStwo had so many disadvantages over the original?
Actually, from rumours I had heard, the slim PS2 wo9uld have the HDD built into it internally and the slim PS2 also has a built in modem for it. So apparently FFXI would still be playable. But why care much for not being able to play FFXI on the slim PS2, it's out on PC...
And PC is whhheeeeyyy better for internet connections!
