In an unsurprising move based on past interactions, The publishers of the game SCUM,  Devolver Digital have continued their practice of disallowing and actively cancelling keys purchased on the so called grey market.

The grey market being sites such as Kinguin and G2A, referred to as such simply because it is often unclear where the keys originated, and where the proceeds for the purchase go.

The move is hardly surprising as back in 2014, Devolver hit out publicly at G2A.com in a tweet:

Devolver Digital games purchased on @G2A_com are not legitimate, not guaranteed, and not supported. We are actively canceling those keys.

— Devolver Digital (@devolverdigital) May 14, 2014

@g2a_com We've received lots of complaints about users not receiving keys from your service and you use our name on the purchase page.

The publisher has even gone so far as to create an "Approved Vendors" list on their website, and posted a screenshot on Twitter explicitly naming and shaming Kinguin and G2A:

Since we just got an angry email from someone that bought SCUM from a sketchy site, here is a list of approved (and unapproved vendors) where our games are available: https://t.co/priahjffM7 pic.twitter.com/U2l7wZkrMs

It's a very agressive stance for sure, ironically don't DD get the money from the original key purchase only to then cancel it thus getting double the revenue if someone then has to buy the game again through an "approved" vendor?

It's what everyone sane does.

Well, it's kinda the same with piracy - someone has to first buy a game to then create a torrent. At least then you're not paying some stupid credit card thief.

Not necessarily. If a game key was say bought via a stolen credit card, then sold on G2A, the card company may chargeback the costs from DD when the owner of the card disputes it or it's discovered to be fraud.

True, I never thought of that.

These keys are not always stolen though?

Granted, but all I am saying is that for the develolper, for the ones which are not stolen, they're effectively taking double the payment.

Well, if you have a more effective idea that still brings the point of "don't use G2A you retards" across, I'm sure they'll give moneys to you. If anything, it's an even bigger penalty for those idjits who always write "I buy from G2A and never got scammed hurr durr"
