The University Of Bolton psychology department is currently conducting research into gaming.

If you are a regular MMORPG player or user of virtual worlds and over 18, please complete this very short (5 min max), anonymous online questionnaire- thank you.

I'm not really much of an RPG player these days (thanks Bioware), but have fun. I'd be interested in seeing any articles you happen to post once you've gathered the relevant info :)

I think you may end up with some issues with this survey. Most online RPGs aren't really about roleplaying, they are more about socializing while playing an arcade game. I think for what you are trying to do you'd have to look at a specific subset of gamers (those who play on "RPG" servers within MMORPGs) or even better at pen and paper RPG players.

I'd imagine there are going to be at least two visible classes of people in the responses - those who actively roleplay in MMORPGs (and there are groups in most games set up to do this) - and those who are more into the combat mechanics of the thing.

...

It'd be interesting to see a follow up study as to whether you can accurately predict which of those is which without knowing ahead of time.
