I think it is. You can see how shipments reach the ports faster with roads. A good way to make money is to send diplomats to other nations and sell your map information.

Now that I think about it, I never really knew what selling map information does, can you explain that too? (I've had this game since it came out, I just never understood this.)

The nation you sell the info to will see what you discovered on your map and the locations of your units. But the AI disregards this information anyway when attacking, so go for it.

Send armies without generals into a fight. If you win a spectacular victory there is a chance that you will get another general. I think the chance is better if you take at least one experienced unit with you. If you need more generals you can also bribe some from other nations.

Send a large army to go fight a weaker one namely one of a enemy whois almost wiped out, so that he only sends out cheap weak units, and make sure it also a large one, then just try to kill as many as you can without losing much and aim for a major+ victory.

That generally works. Or what I do, or did rather, is send a general unit in the direction of the enemy army. On the way, I would recruit a small force of mercs. Good way to get an army on the move really fast.

Concerning the generals, u can get generals by sending a diplomat to a rebels general and bribe him, so he will be a general in your army, and can marry someone and expand your family tree:)
