i remember in COD4 where i could put in the /record command and my games would start recording itself and i just want to know if left 4 dead can do the same. but some questions. 1. how do i bring up the console 2. whats the command to record 3. where can i find the recorded file 4. will i need anything to open it with

First of all, to enable the console you have to go to the menu where you can modify key bindings. There, you go to advanced and check the box to enable the developer's console.

Open the console and type "record xxxx" (xxxx being a name with no spaces or special figures like /, _, and so on. Type "stop" to finish it.

The files are recorded as .dem files, which means they can only be played in-game in their current form (the files themselves are located in the base steam folder for the game).

All source games, including L4D, run on this system. To learn more than what I can possibly say, check this out.

And take a look at these Youtube vids (it covers CS, but it's essentially the same. He utilizes a special .cfg file to bind the commands to keys for easy use)
