Hey I'm new to the forum but I just had a idea that would be usefull to not only me a but a few other people. I was wondering if anyone ever came up with the idea of a research limitation mod? This would add a option in the advanced menus screen as your trying to create a new game that would make it so you can set a Era at which you and all the surrounding civilizations can not advance past that era's technollagies and improvements. For instence, let's say you want to play a game where you are the French empire and you want to start at the period of time where people were just starting to sail over seas to the New world but you don't want to advance past the age where you get canyons, muskets, and sailing ships...or in other words, you want to be able to advance through all the technollagies until you reach the ones that will get you into the industrial age because you want to stay in the Columbus time set of mind. If you want me to try and explain further then just ask but I tried explaining as much as I could. I think a mod like this would help create scenerios to be perfect such as one based upon the American revolution where you don't want to have to deal with yours and the computer's civilization suddenlly becoming modern and your still in trying to fight the British:uhm: It really annoy's me to not be able to stay in a certain period of time if I trully don't want to be playing modern times and I think if some one creates a mod like this it would help out greatly for many people. I would create this mod my self but I have practically no computer skills what so ever hehe so I'm asking..no..begging for some one else to please take up this proposition and make a mod like this:bawl: Anyways, if this is even possible then I would appreciate if some one could do this but, if this mod is already created elsewhere then I would also appreciate if some one could send me a link as to where I could find this. Thanks :)

To limit research just go to the tech xml file and delete all of the techs u dont want. You can even delete the earlier techs and remove tech eras so you only get the techs you want. (When you delete earlier techs be sure to put anything that the techs grant you; ie. camps, pastures, farms; into the starting tech of what you have left)

If you mean the file "Civ4TechInfos.xml" found in the "Assets/XML/Technologies" folder - I have tried this approach and Civ4 still allows you to learn those techs. If the XML file is serving as a database for Civ4 tech's, then I have no idea how, but I'm able to get to the renaissance period when i delete all but ancient, classical and medieval. Is there another approach or am I missing another file to operate on? Also, anyone know how to restrict the AI to build a set maximum number of cities (i.e. 3, 5, etc)?
