S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Shadow of Chernobyl.

What the hell went wrong? For a game that went through that many delays and was so hyped, I just find it incredibly overrated. I finished a run-through of the game and found it to have numerous bugs [I used an up-to-date version.] and found it just.. odd.

That said, with various mods I found the game immensely enjoyable, and quite atmospheric. But why should mods have to be made to fix a game? I can think of various other titles that have had the same issue, [Oblivion for instance.] and it isn't right.

Anyone else ever came across other games with issues like this? Eg. Not polished, over-hyped, etc. And how did you overcome it?

The only other time I'll play a game labelled Stalker is when it involves following cute women and watching them through windows.

I found that problem to be quite apparent in KOTOR 2. The first game was good, but the second just screamed unfinished everywhere. Enjoyable nevertheless, but it could have been so much more. There is a mod crew trying to restore the cut content.

Pirates of the Burning Sea. I waited quite a while for it, but it turned out to be rather similar to single-player pirate games. Not a bad game, the economy-part is very nice, but less than I expected.

As for Stalker, I think it was a nice game, maybe because I didn't have any great expectations when playing it. The graphics seemed less impressive than what was announced at first but I really liked the atmosphere.

Ah. I was hunting around for that in the shops.. but could never find it. Absolutely loved the first though. Might wait for this mod to be completed before I buy it online.

Yea PotBS was a bit of a let down. It had some brilliant ideas behind it and a lot of character customisation, but just didn't 'flesh-out' enough.

As with Stalker, it is indeed a good game, but I just found it rather slow paced and un-enjoyable. Then I used a few mods, tweaked the engine a bit and found it much better. Just got to change things around a bit to suit ones tastes.

I hope Fallout 3 doesn't end up like Oblivion. If it does... I will have lost faith in Bethesda. Another game is Far Cry 2. They seem to be promising what looks to be perfection almost, and I'm curious as to whether it will be actually pulled off.

I found this to be a boring game, myself. I couldn't even finish it. It was so damn boring. It was like Oblivion, but with guns instead. I disliked that game, too.

Yeah TSLRP they are moving along well in the progress. I also found that in K2. I bought K2 in 04 and bought it before K1. Then once I bought K1 in 06 I saw how much better the first one is. All games people like and dislike. It is based on opinon on what you want there and what's not there.
