Well, as many of you now know, I run a more outdated machine than most. So I've been going back and playing a few classics that will actually run.

This is leading me to believe that I just plain suck at racing games.

Many of the reviews I've seen rate this game as "medium" difficulty. If this is Medium difficulty, then what is the X cup of an F-Zero game? Or the level 5 championship mode in Cruis'n World? The 150cc mode of Mario Kart? Were all the NFS games that came before it "easy" difficulty?

I'm on race 103. So far I've spent 3 days, and countless laps in 3rd place.

No matter how well I drive, the AI seems to stay just in front of me. I expected the Rubber band effect to keep the AI close, not ahead of me. Whatever I do, I cannot pass the lead AI vehicle.

Maybe its just the keyboard...

well, i can't say if you suck at playing race games or not but i can tell you that the AI in NFS:U1 is a real pain in the ass! if you go past them they are glued at you like some divine might of the God of Unfair Racing... Games...!? (yep, name works for me) it is realy an unfair game, don't get me wrong! it IS a GOOD game maybe even great or AWESOME but the fact remains that it is unfair! you must notice, if you lie in front and crash into a car, there is almost no chance you will ever get near the front again. but if the enemy crashes into a car and you drive at full speed and take the curves and turns at the biggest possible perfection it will take about 5sec and he is back at your tail... it realy pisses me off!!! another is that the AI never has to handle the downside of a car! but enough ranting! fact1: NFS:U1 is UNFAIR fact2: NFS:U2 is a very GOOD game fact3: you can't do a sh*t against it... i know this probably didn't realy help you but maybe it helps you to know it deffinitly is the game's and not your fault

I dont know about you guys, but I thought the first NFS:U was really easy. Maybe you are just really bad at racing games.

touché... no but seriously, i have beaten the game in about a week of 1 hour gaming per day at about 14 years old, it is pretty easy but still the AI is a pain in the ass. it doesn't give a poopie about how good you drive or not, they're always there... always...

Well, I finally figured out how beat the system.

When you guys say this game was easy. Did you run the game with low level, or stock engines?

After coming across some advice that downgrading the engine of your car, also downgrades the engine of your competitor, I reverted my engine to stock.

After doing so, then it became easy. The difficulty of the PC version 1.4 seems to be related to the engine, more than the chosen difficulty.

In the above post, I was running a fully tweaked level 3 engine. Now I'm running NFS:U2 on my Gamecube.

Was just about to say that..

That's how my dad beat a few races in NFS: MW

me to, but if it helps you... but honestly, what is the sense of playing a game based around TUNING and then play with a fully NON-TUNED car to simply beat the game? no offense here, simply my oppinion.

My thoughts exactly...

kow_ciller;4911235Nope, ran everything fully tuned.

Keyboard, Joystick, or Controller?

PC or Console?

Also, how did your spec's compare to my current spec's?

It's also in how you race those titles. The NFS: U series has some hardcore rubberband AI that can drive at very unrealistically fast speeds to catch up if you get too far ahead. If you're having any trouble winning races, it's best to stay close behind the lead car if you can and smoke him towards the end of the race.

That being said, I did find that the difference between Easy and Medium modes were drastically different, esp on keyboard and using mediocre PC spec that results in lag in some places.
