This week in MMO crowdfunding, Star Citizen’s crowdfunding reached new heights as Cloud Imperium posted the Legatus pack, a huge bundle pack that runs $27,000. That seems ridiculous, but it also includes a ridiculously huge number of ships – 117, in fact, with 163 extras (things like beacons, modules, posters, and additional models).

There is no "but" in this situation. I don't care if it's 1170 ships. $27000 on a video game is too damned much!

If you are a rich person with too much money to know what to do with laying around, fine. But in no way do I see this being a good idea.

One thing to remember about video games is to NEVER use real money in video games. You already paid for the game in the first place. Everything needs to already be in the game, or a way to use in-game currency to obtain it.

Using real money to buy in-game stuff is nothjing mroe than corporate greed wanting us to buy the game, then buy the game again and again.

Story update: It requires that you have already spent $1000+ in the game already to even view it. If there was ever an elitist package, it would be this one.

People will continue to defend Star Citizen because "you can still buy the ships with in-game money".

But the whole damn game is nothing but a money grab.

Well, if other people finance the development of a great game for me that is nothing I am very sad about. Not so sure if we will see a game coming out of this though.

Don't really understand why someone would want to buy all the ships, for space sims the main motivator for me was to get better equipment and ships, not sure I'd be playing the game at all if I had all ships sitting there from the beginning.

To be fair, people actually asked for it to be available. Like Fancypants, I just can't figure out why, though.

I suppose the silver lining is that it's better for devs to receive the $27,000 than some Chinese sweatshop on the grey market.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
