GameFrontSome time ago it was reported that Slant Six Games, developers of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, were working on an entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. That was never confirmed officially, but some intrepid gamers posting over at Beta Games – helpfully mirrored over on Neogaf – have identified what appears to be Star Wars: Battlefront files hidden in Raccoon City’s code. The files show concept art, like the image at the top of the post, for the planet Hoth, the setting for the first act of Empire Strikes Back (assuming anyone reading this lives under a rock).

Source

It might be just wishful thinking, but this rumour sounds legitimate. Now, the question then comes up; Why would these images be hidden inside the game files of a completely unrelated game? And can anyone with the game around here actually confirm their presence there?

Oh god I hope it's not them...

I'm fairly certain Spark Development is creating Battlefront 3, months ago they were hiring a bunch of people, and the job descriptions for each section SCREAMED "MULTIPLAYER STAR WARS THIRD PERSON SHOOTER".

BattleFront 3 actually was being made a few years ago, but it got cancelled. I was looking forward to being able to walk onto the launch pad, climb into a ship, and fly it into space, all without loading screens. I should blast the schutta that pulled the plug on the project. :madman:

It's not impossible it could be a joint venture between Slant Six Games and Spark Unlimited, with one party doing the multiplayer and the other focusing on the singleplayer. I would have preferred they kept it to just one developer though.

I remember that. Wasn't that more of a tech demo for the engine that would be used, though? It would have been nice, but not really in the style of Battlefront. The separation of land and space maps in the second game was well enough.

Microsoft Flight allowed you to leave the planes and walk around, and I loved the concept. I myself would have liked to be able to walk around, jump in a craft, and fly out of the hangar. Then of course, you have the battle over Naboo against the Trade Federation. You have the pilots on the planet surface jumping into their fighters, and flying into orbit. I would love to be able to reenact such a feat.

Battlefront: Rogue Squadron features the ability to move between land, space, and the enemy capital ships. I tried the demo. I thought it was a potentially good concept, but failed horribly on the PSP.

No no no, think of the naming conventions. It would have to be "Battlefield: A long time ago"

I checked, and Lucasfilm did file for the Battlefront trademark in August last year, and published for opposition last month. Just a note, and might not mean anything(given that the Skyrim trademark appeared and disappeared several times over the years until its announcement in 2010), but I think it's worth throwing out there.
