How many of you have played Star Wars Galaxies? What is your opinion of it? Is it any good? I'm wanting to hear some people's opinions on the game, since I own it, but can't play it because my computer doesn't meet the physical memory requirements for it, and therefore it is very laggy. Since I own it, I've been wondering if its worth fiddling with my computer for, and paying the playing fee for it. I got it a couple years ago as a birthday present, but I just recently somehow got it to run.

I played it a lot. In fact, I managed to get two Emperor's Chairs and almost reached the 32nd Month veteran reward before quitting. It's a good game, if you haven't experienced it before the New Game Enhancements patch. It changed a great deal, as did the Combat Enhancements, although to a lesser degree. Most people disliked both updates, and quit a short time after they were released. Others loyally stuck around, but the numbers have diminished greatly. I don't even think you would find a whole lot of people, even in the popular cities. Last time I visited Coronet in it, it was pretty much a ghost town excluding the NPCs. Its golden age is far gone, and I don't think it's going to get a boost again. No more expansions either.

Some people still do play it, but it's changed far too much for it to be any fun now.

SWGEmu is working on the Pre-CU to try and create what they think the game should have been. I test ran that for about 6 months before the community got to me, forcing me to quit.

It seems confusing how some updates almost killed the game and yet the developers did not undo them.

What exactly did those updates change that made everyone quit?

They've got good plans, but no interest in reigning in their community which is going to leave the project dead from the get-go. I had to leave as well, despite being on the staff there, because there wasn't even anything I could do to influence change.

Everything. Not even kidding. They basically changed it from one game to another game overnight. It went from a unique MMO to an EQ clone in one fell swoop. They even had to issue refunds for one of the expansions, because the expansion was released right before the NGE (New Game Experience -- you can even tell from the name that they butchered it completely), which made the game they bought different from the game they received.

I wasn't really there to influence change. I had my fun, met some cool people, but in the end a community can really influence how the game plays more than the game itself.

I meant change in administrative policy, not on gameplay.

Oh, you mean the whole corruption issue with some of the staff? Yeah, I had problems with a couple of them, Ekaika (spelling) or whatever usually. That's what happens when staff chooses staff though. You end up only having friends and friends of friends working on the game.

So the "patch" made an entirely different game, so to speak? An entirely different game that made people quit... Makes me wonder what the game was like before the "enhancement." I would think the developers would have undone the changes they made that dissatisfied everyone, since SWG is a pay-to-play game.

Ekaika wasn't so bad, he just drinks too much and has no people skills. Good for a customer service job... =p
