I beleive, that anyone who has known both the starcraft as well as the wh40k universe finds very striking similarities between the units of both worlds. From the zerg overall, to the terran marines.

Yet, could it be possible that starcraft 2 seems to rip of warhammer 40k even more?

For instance the soul hunter unit (as seen in the beginning of this movie, bears very striking resemblence to the necron destroyer unit. to comparedestroyer-top-pic.jpg That including the gaus attack.

further, the new terran unit reaper, seems awfully reminiscient of a combination of sororita seraphim (just male) again

Sadly, the ingame vid of the reaper was not possible to embed, since that looks even more like a seraphim, if male.

Then the new terran ghost and vindicare assassin

Spoiler: Show
once more sorry for no direct image. But, most of all, check out the icon for the ghost in the upper panel here and compare it to 40k_candle_mvindicare_s.jpg

Further, the entire theme and atmosphere seems to be becoming a bit more warhammeresque.

To illustrate the point. Look at this artwork

The marine, looks so much like a ultra that killed the tyranids. Even the colors are correct. For the ultramarines are renowned for their anti tyranid specialisation

In all, it seems to me, that starcraft 2 is trying to fiddle in even more of the warhammer feel and essence then it's predecessor ever did.

Do you refuse to believe that maybe, just maybe, that the fantastic artists from Blizzard drew these up in their own minds? If not completely, everyone was inspired from somewhere. The Universes are almost completely different, the atmosphere, a few of the monsters may be similar, but the Protoss are alike the Eldar in no way except they are both FUCKING OLD and psychic. The Zerg and the Tyranids are both monsters, but they're art style is almost completely different. The Terrans aren't nearly as dystopian, fanatical or totalitarian as the Imperium of Warhammer, the Marines aren't supermen, they're regular badasses in Combat suits. The atmosphere is much more futuristic, and not everyone of the same race is allied with eachother, there's political intrigue, and conflicts.

I suppose a rabid Warhammer 40k Fanboy whose apparently incapable of seeing or refuses to see the dividing line between two universes with slightly similar art styles and themes, but mostly being vastly different. wouldn't understand that, but, my opinion stands.

look how similar the units look seriously. They have differences in detail, but look too similar for it to be a coincidence.

Further, again, the differences lie in details, but once more the terran marine/space marine similarities are quite striking. Further - dystopian? Ever heard of what happened on earth, that they put all criminals and cripples on colony ships.... The confederation and the "exterminatus" of korhal.

Again the details are different. But the way the new units look is just somewhat crazy in comparing to wh40k.

Just look at the soul hunter as a prime example.

I remember some time ago, that sc 1 was even supposed to be frmo wh40k, but they did not receive the license.

Don't get me wrong, I also love starcraft, but I disliked how some people tend to mark is a the best rts in all time, the most original etc. From the time of sc, there's another magnificent rts, Total annihilation - in many ways I consider it superior to sc, yet most rabid fans derail everything.

The same with sc2 The graphics are at first glance, nothing special, yet the amount of comments about how grand, perfect etc it looks is just weird. When one considers how many better looking games ou there there are.

What I dislike, is how a name can lift up a game over it's reality.

For instance, act of war, a rts with great potential, internal side balance and playability is today almost unknown, just because it has no great predecessor, or name to borrow from.

I like both SC and WH40K, but i don't value one 'higher' than the other. Yes, it may be possible that some of these units were 'inspired' by WH40K, but just let it slide. Oh, btw, this is going to seem like a very n00by question, but here I go... (*swallows pride*) I recently purchased WH40K Dawn of War, but if I LAN it, i can only pick the Tau and Necron as teams. Is this because iIdon't have the previous DoWs?

To open the older races in multiplayer, you require to have the other two dows (dow+wa) or if you do not wish to have them installed, but do have your own cd-keys. You can use the dc unlock tool found here
