Who thought thief 3, although being indefinitely superior and generally much more than the others in every fathomable way, was just not very... thief-y? I mean....compared to the dark project and the metal age (both sharing same engine), did you think this new generation of thieving is a little....short on the plot? I just feel it's a tad too...open...in exploration terms...but not exactly open enough...and the scenery gets boring VERY quickly.

Of course it was thief-y. How much stuff do you need to steal before you're convinced that you're a thief? :p I didn't play the first games, unfortunately. I don't know much about them. Heck, I only got the current one because it came free with my Audigy 2 soundcard along with that latest Hitman game. I haven't finished the current one either, because other things keep getting in the way. All I know is that it's always fun to pick a lock, club a guy over the head and then run off with all his valuables. Whether that says something about me or not, I don't know. I'm mostly wondering; did the previous Thief games have a supernatural element to them as well? I haven't really progressed very far, but from what I've seen of a few of the cutscenes there does seem to be one in this. I just think it suddenly seems out-of-place, like suddenly dumping mutant monsters into an otherwise-believable FarCry. Though the world of Thief certainly wouldn't look odd with supernatural creatures in it... As for the scenery getting boring, I think it's the opposite! I will say that sometimes the town area can get a little 'samey', and I did get lost once or twice because of it, but there are far worse games in this regard -- Halo, for instance. Red Faction was another. Doom 3 looks the same almost the whole way through except for a few specific areas. Thief seems to use its graphics to their full potential, and they're very good graphics at that.
Mr. Matt I didn't play the first games, unfortunately. I don't know much about them.
haha that sort of makes your whole post irrelevant then :uhm:

Deadly Shadows was awesome. I loved it. It had the right blend of new content and classic Thief to create one superb game. I just want them to make another one...
well actually they're making a new massive mod with the doom engine! ace ay
