I am utterly surprised at this. For as long as I can remember, the first day of the summer I would go to a local game store and pick up a new game. But this year, only five days away from the last day of school i find myself in an awkward position. There is nothing to play. As odd as it is that no game publishers would set a release date for summer, as it seems that it would be a gold mine, i need some help picking out a game I can dedicate my first couple of weeks of summer to, before I depart. The game doesn't have to be a new or next-gen game, but hell, i didn't spend 700 dollars on new hardware not to use it. For your convenience, off the top of my head are the more recent, or often recommended games I own or have played completely, with some insight on how I felt about them:

Half Life - Super oodles of fun Half Life 2 - Oodles of fun Oblivion - poop on a stick Crysis - One night stand type of thing Call of Duty 4 - Oodles of fun, until I lost my unlocks Mass Effect - oodles of fun, far too shallow though Unreal Tournament III - meh, i think the only one i really liked was the first STALKER - mixed feelings World In Conflict - oodles of fun, got old Hitman: Blood Money - super oodles of fun, if not for the fact that I completed every assassination in every way I could think of I'd keep playing Battlefields - fun Battlefronts - fun Civilization IV - pulled a bunch of all nighters and never touched it again Quake 4 - poop on a stick Guild Wars - alright Fallouts - super oodles of fun Far Cry - super oodles of fun, till the aliens came KOTORs - super oodles of fun, all the way Bioshock - oodles of fun

Help me out here... As to my games of preference, I'm probably more keen towards RPG's at this point, as generally those provide the most gameplay hours. I also enjoy RTS games, and 'sophisticated' first person shooters, so for example Quake 4 bored the hell out of me, Bioshock was oodles of fun. I might actually give STALKER another shot, last time I played it was on my old computer, the bad performance, long load times and endless running back and forth forced me to stop about two missions into the second area.

well, you seemed to have played a good bulk of some of the best games. though not a big rpg fan, maybe the witcher perhaps? but im pretty good on the rts side. sins of a solar empire is a massive rts game. but you may pull some all nighters again. command and conquer generals and its sequal, zero hour is loads of fun. ground control II. its a forgotten game imo that was basically the founder of world in conflict. you know. you dont build a base. instead you capture landing zones and call in troops with a set ammount of cash. star wars empire at war. an amazing star wars rts game. though land battles maybe a little slow. the space battles are awsome especially with the cinimatic camera function making it feel like your watching a movie.

Hmm, I forgot to list The Witcher, that's a recent game, and having been born and spent most of my life in Poland, how could I miss out on that. It was a good game, not quite worth the hype, but I enjoyed it. Sins I played, not really my thing, GCII I own, Empire at War as well. Ill take a look at the Command and Conquer games you listed, i've never played any C&C games.

Get them! Now! Your missing some of the best RTS games ever! You can get the "First Decade" pack, which contains all the C&C games and their expansion packs up to Generals/Zero Hour on one DVD. C&C 3 is also a must get.

I suppose Ill give them a shot then, I never was too big on RTS games, I like some, but there have been far too many that did nothing for me I can't consider my self a fan. I really liked World in Conflict as well as Age of Empires II, on the other hand Supreme Commander I found over hyped and inadequate while Ground Control II was -ok. I may also see if I can find StarCraft somewhere, last time I played it I was about eight years old and unimpressed, so maybe now Ill at least appreciate the game. I actually may have some old old old Command and Conquer disks laying around from when I bought a box of old games for a dollar at a yard sale. Ill rifle through it again.

Resident evil 4 is good fun, but on the PC theres no mouse control....Keyboard only, which sucks to a whole new level, but its good on the Wii if you have one.

I don't own a PS3. I do have a Wii, but I probably don't want to buy anything for it. PC games only.

I think Mercenaries 2 was originally scheduled to release last summer... hopefully it's coming out this year.
