Valve also put themselves in a bind with their titles. There's so much hype behind them, such as HL3, that only the most absolutely perfect video game that meets with their wildly exaggerated expectations would suffice as acceptable. That's a lot of pressure and publishers would see this as a costly task, while developers would see it as something that would never leave production.
