Well it's almost certain we will be able to do that sometime in the future. However I think we may see some developments of such technology in our lifetime but I don't think we will see commercial use of it, mabye our children will.

There is nothing stopping us, but i would be amazed to download a smell file, music i can accept, pictures and video but a smell file :s and also say you went to play GTA you would need a treadmill or something like that as if you didnt you would end up running into the wall!

Then weapons it wouldnt be VR if you couldnt feel it! So that means each game would come with all the weapons and items with it, the boxes would be gigantic. Then there is the price of it all :o

I probly got more to say about it but i can't think atm. Overall i just dont think it would be practical if you ask me... my 2 cents ;)

complete and utter bullshit. if we're advanced enough to generate rain you can feel, we can also generate weapons which feel realistic. same for items. you'd probably end up getting a small disk, which you just put in a computer, or perhaps a slot in a seperate room (3d arcade style).

Yes, you got it in one we will soon have the technology to randomly generate things, so if we are poor we could generate money! LMAO you say my ideas where bull shit...

The only way VR with all this BS you guys are talking about is if it uses some sort of controlled hypnosis or something. It'll be many many years before anyone will develope technology where we can physically touch a 3D image, if ever. The idea is intriguing though.

There have been things made that create smells based on what the program asks for, though of course it's pretty limited. The tactile part is pretty much here, force-feedback joysticks have been around for years, and now the new thing are those gloves or whatever with the sensors that track your movement. Shouldn't be too difficult for them to simulate different types of textures in the near future...

I'm not sure about smells, but Holography should be advanced enough to give us a pretty realistic game experience within our life times.

The first holographic discs are expected to come out around 2008, and games should soon follow (game consoles would probably be able to play the discs).

EDIT: Did that make any sense it all? It all makes sense to me in my head, because I know what I'm trying to say, but as I read over it, I see it may be confusing for some.

A heliograph machine was invented in Korea a while ago. It displays a free-floating image several inches above the machine. Pretty cool, and I read an interview with someone who said "a fully 3D image won't be far behind" or something of that nature.

But you know guys, Virtual Reality wouldn't be a holographic environment, it's more like The Matrix or EXistenZe or something. It has to be on a mental level, not just appearance.
