Hey, I have and own a legal copy of Warcraft 3, but lost the cd case that had the cd-key on it! So, like, is there any way I could check the the cd-key by going into the games files or something? Please help.

If you still have it installed, it's possible that the key is stored in your registry. Some games store them there, but I'm not sure If Blizzard's games are that way.

As for getting it off the disk, I don't think I've ever had a game where it was stored anywhere within the game files. It's typically just on the case or box.

To avoid the problem you are facing now, a few years ago I started to use a Sharpie (perm. marker) to write the key on the game cd itself, as well as maintaining a text file on a floppy disk with all my serial #s. Then, I'd always have them.

Registry, eh? Could you show me how to get there?

Oh yeah, and thats a good idea to write the cd-keys on the cd. But what I do is, from now on every game I buy, I get a labeler and print out the cd-keys with the cds, and keep them all organized in one of those little cd booklets you can buy.

Sure, I'll even go a step further and install Warcraft 3 just to see if the key ends up in my registry. No point in sending you to the registry if the key isn't even there and you're unfamiliar with using it.

I'll post back in a few minutes...

You really don't have to do that, all I was wondering was if there was a cd-key in my registry, where would I go to find it out?

Well I just installed it anyways as it only takes like 4 minutes, but there was no key for Warcraft in the registry.

For future reference, to check your registry:

Click Start --> Run and type "regedit" [Enter]

Then in the tree that opens, expand the folders with the little [+] next to them:

[-] My Computer [-] HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE [-] SOFTWARE

In the "SOFTWARE" tree is where the entries to your games and programs are located, typically in a folder named after the company (EA Games, Activision, etc.)

I wouldn't go messing with stuff though, just view it. You can screw up your system if you go making changes in there.

There should be something in the manual (or if you've lost that too, the Blizzard website) which allows you to write to them for a replacement CD for a small fee, which should come with a new CD key.
