The last time I was in GAME they had something like ten games for the PC, that cost more than if you'd got them online - and a small selection from the budget range.

Just not a realistic business model anymore, I'd imagine.

If GAME goes under, that'll be the last computer store within twenty minutes drive dead. I haven't bought anything from computer stores in quiet some time though.

This PC was made from parts purchased entirely off the internet. Most of my games are off the internet..... Come to think of it the vast majority of my shopping for anything is done on the internet these days - why barge through a store full of people, to search illogically organised stuff, just to pay silly prices for it?

I had to laugh at the part in the GAME video where they said industry leading console repair facilities. MS is going to get swamped with more repairs than they can handle if GAME goes down. So sad to think that such a huge enterprise revolves around such crap quality equipment who's deign is far beyond their control.

That said, there's far more to gaming than the systems they're played on anymore. It seems to be so much about marketing, digital distribution and DRM that most customers have put quality of the product itself in the back of their minds, be it the hardware or the software.

I can't see any sense in calling GAME a "computer store" though. It seems to be almost the exact equivalent of GameStop here in the US, which I often call GameGestapo. They pretty much single handedly were responsible for console games squashing the retail space of PC games.

I meant that it sucks in the way that 10,000 jobs are at risk if GAME and Gamestation go under. (This affects Gamestation aswell).

And it also sucks for me as I would then have no-where to sell my old preowned, non-supported games if GAME and Gamestation go under! I refuse to pay to advertise my preowned games on ebay!!!

I think that's just the way the economy's going to go. Automation will kill off most jobs; production goes to the robots, the internet's going to fucking slaughter retail once reasonably automated logistics are online and the next couple of generations are the main spenders. Self driving vehicles are in existence today and when they get licensed up and come down to a reasonable price there go the lorry drivers....

There are, I think, going to be very few jobs that aren't creative in nature going around. A new kind of Eden - where you can focus on art and creativity - at least for those who can draw a welfare cheque. =p

Maybe that's the closest we'll come to communism - a few companies with automated workers, highly taxed and everyone else just doing whatever they please to pass the time.

Either that or resource shortages will fuck us all, I suppose. Mass civil disorder as a disenfranchised generation have their few pleasures taken away from them... decay and destruction of society....

It sucks on both ends. There's probably a worse trickle down from pissing off consumers than from all those jobs lost. The last thing you want to do is make consumers reluctant to buy in an already depressed economy.

When Electronics Boutique got bought up by GameStop, that pretty much spelled the end of being able to find a large selection of used PC games to buy cheap and a place to sell them.

Those of you upset about this on a console game level are finally experiencing what PC only gamers have been going through for some time now. Ebay is pretty much the last resort for used PC games now.
