Best: Oblivion. The one game that has just under 980 hours on my Xfire list over two years of playing. (One year taken for breaks) CSS. Topped over 1k hours just a week ago. Battle for Middle Earth. A great RTS all around, made better by a campaign actually aligned with the books Worst: Turning Point fall of Liberty. Worst game I've ever played. Horrible. Uber Soldier. Almost equally bad. WALL-E. Yes, I know, kids game. One of THE worst pieces of shit in the market.

After much contemplation (well actually five minutes of casual thought while I was shaving), I present to you my Top Three Lists of ALL TIME (so far as Matt knows) for y'all to ignore! Top Three Games OF ALL TIME: In an industry that has existed for decades, putting out dozens (and ultimately hundreds) of titles a year, many of which I have played and enjoyed over the course of my entire life, picking the best three games I've ever played is no small undertaking. I've tried to pick the three most enduring titles of my life, which I feel represent not just excellent technical accomplishment or narrative worthiness, but also pure enjoyment. There may be more recent games that I will play in their place these days, but these will be on my mind long after 2009's GotY title has faded into a rotted DVD.

  1. Half-Life 1 - Genre-defining, narrative-driven experience which continues to mercilessly beat the snot out of modern shooters. Those three people who haven't played it yet are going to be beaten to a pulp if they don't jump into Black Mesa.
  2. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Knuckles - Technically it's two games, but they plug into each other to form one game, and they were originally intended to be a single game, so stuff the lot of you. This is the shining beacon of the Sonic series, its last breath of true excellence before the franchise turned to three-dimensional crap, and one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played. Like, eva.
  3. Mafia - It's what GTA4 wanted to be: a mature crime drama, video gaming's answer to The Godfather. It was an action-packed, story-driven rollercoaster ride with believable, developed and emotive characters, and a large city to explore in the meantime (which was, at the time of its release anyway, more impressive than any other).

Worst Three Games OF ALL TIME: Ugh, where to begin. There have probably been more crap games than good games over the years, and generally I try to avoid buying the most epic fails in the first place so my choice of honest-to-god manure on a disc or cartridge is limited at best. But even with meticulous research you can make a mistake and pick up a genuine piece of trash, and personal tastes can lead to one man's classic being named the scum of the Earth. These three stood out in my mind more than any others:

  1. BREED - This is an obvious one, easy to include before I even thought of anything else. So much hype was released about this game, and FileFront even had a FilesNetwork site devoted to it in anticipation of its appeal. But no... even if it weren't genuinely the buggiest piece of coding I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing, the gameplay itself was woefully poor, the missions repetitive and the graphics terrible. How this game found a publisher, I will never know.
  2. Starship Troopers - I get the feeling I'm going to be repeating myself a lot here. Basically, copy-paste the above - gameplay sucked, missions repetitive, no narrative to speak of, crappy graphics. This game intended to wow the player by rendering countless hundreds of bugs on the screen simultaneously without any slowdown. It accomplishes this well, mainly because the bugs are constructed from no more than five polygons and have no AI coding to speak of. You could render a million of them on an Amiga without any slowdown for crying out loud.
  3. Earth Defence Force 2017 - If this game had been released ten years ago, it would have been a diffe... no, who am I kidding, it would still be ugly, cheap crap.
Afterburner;4822440So because it was hyped that means it is one of the top three worst games you've ever played? You say you enjoy it, yet it is in the top three worst. I think people don't understand what worst really means.

People tend to use lists like this as an excuse to make a point / stir up trouble with fanboys. Whether they actually feel that way or not, you'll never be able to tell, but you can generally find a clue when they point at universally acclaimed games and call them the worst thing since Daikatana.

Oh my God man theres way too many! Well anyway:

BEST 1. The Halo series- Storyline was good, game was good and online kicked ass. Still left a few glitches and secrets and it is not like any other game. Alot of variety even if certain parts are a bit patchy the storyline keeps you intrested. The main character is very interesting as well, especially as reading comics and crap about him.

2.Lord of the Rings the Battle for Middle earth 2-absolutely amazing game. Missions kinda sucked but the storyline was easy from the books, movies etc. The variety was brillaint kept me going for hours. Heroes, hero powers and levels, troops, upgrades, abilities, teams etc. Also there was actually a fair bit of strategy in it like certain tropps having advantages over others.

3.World of Warcraft-Just brilliant. Great RPG, loads of levels, skills, spells, attacks, classes and the map is huge.

WORST 1. Bullet Witch- Awful graphics, storyline and area. Attacks were few and annoying and looked shit. I wanted to microwave it

2. C&C red alert 3- Awful (not the worst) but possibly the most annoying. I was sooooo hyped after red alert 2 and tyberium wars and waited for a mental game with awesome graphics and a new story line whilst still keeping the classic C&C styles. Instead I found cartoon graphics with an annoying storyline, a new team which is bollocks and shit online. It's war and it's the childish take like "come on then" which men wouldn't say if their face is currently being melted.

3. Prince of Persia- Biggest waste of money time and doritoes...I ate loads of them whist playing this piece of crap when I could have eaten on them whilst playing COD. Piece of fucking bollocks. I actually threw stones at it I was so angry that I paid £50 for a peice of shit and I got no refund.

It all depends which PoP game you are talking about. The latest one, aptly named Prince Of Persia, just caused a wave of mindf*cks the world over because of the re-use of the exact same title from the very first 2D platformer from days gone by, was uttter trash.

'PoP: The Sands Of Time' is by far one of the best games I have ever played. Hell, I still have it on my old PS2 and play it regularly. It was unique. A work of art. Then they had to ruin the franchise by giving us 3 cr*ppy sequels (Warrior Within, The 2 Thrones and the aptly named 'next-gen' Prince Of Persia).
