Monster_user;4467715Yeah, we are talking about a Gamecube with a new controller. Smash didn't even use a new control system. Its definitely did not have the trademark Nintendo innovation, although it did make the game fresh.
not by much... i mean yea, i got it and i thought i would be spending hours, days on end playing it... but then it just got old to me. it was the same thing, they replaced some old characters i liked. and SSE was just pointless and messed up. seriously, what the heck was going on?
Rookie;4467975Please, not this shit again... These threads do nothing but to incite fanboys. Does it really matter, after all? They are consoles, not deities to worship at.
its a hard fact of video gaming that there are always going to be hostile opinions. especially about the consoles.
It is the most important decision of a young man's life. It will affect how cool his friends perceive him to be. It will affect the games he plays, which will mold him into the man he will become. A poorly made decision may lead to a careless, thoughtless soul being unleashed upon the world, with no thought but for his own desires, and no concern for the quality of the game. He will depend on cheats, and walkthroughs, only find enjoyment in how fast he can rise to the top. Not realizing that he will fall down the other side. Hey, if you read it as secede, then it is an obvious question. First Sega seceded from the console world completely. Now Nintendo is seceding from the norm. Sony on the other hand, is not seceding.

i agree, a lot of my friends called me an idiot for buying a wii. i also wanted to play a lot of games that were not on the wii, like gears, or rainbow 6 and all.

The Wii has already won, essentially - not just because it has massively outsold the other two major gaming consoles, but because they have actually made a profit on those sales. That's the key point - the PS3, the Xbox 360, neither of them make a profit when a unit is sold. The Wii does, and it's cheaper for the end user as well.

Which is massively disturbing for all us traditional gamers. The Wii, which targets the casual 'mainstream' market, makes more money than either of the other two, which have geared themselves towards 'hardcore' gamers (I don't know why we're considered hardcore; I just enjoy a challenging, story-driven game with a strong narrative, though considering how much time I spend at the pub and the gym I hardly play them), because if the Wii makes more money than them, MS and Sony will immediately follow suit. And seeing as most new PC games tend to be console ports or multi-platform games, this will certainly be affected as well.

Indeed, they already have started to follow suit. Just look at Microsoft's new Avatar system and the new dashboard for the 360, or at Sony's HOME system, and tell me they're not going after casual gamers.

This generation (or possibly the next, for a while) could well be the last that I actively spend money on. It's a major milestone in the history of gaming - the era when gaming hits the mainstream. And it's Nintendo's fault!

Monster_user;4467634The Wii has sold consoles, now it just needs to sell games. Few games for the Wii have been a blockbuster hit, like GTA IV.

That's not entirely true. Wii games have recently begun flooding the charts, with Wii games such as WiiSport sticking to the higher end of the spectrum for far longer than blockbusters such as GTA IV. They might not have people queuing outside the stores on release night (because they're targeted at casual gamers, who by definition aren't that sad), but they have much more staying power.

so are you saying that gaming is basically dead to a person who like shooting, action, and a well told storyline?
