What the title says, really. Out of all the games you've played, which one makes you jump, shriek, yell, develop a nervous twitch or hide behind the couch? If so, why?

For me, it would have to be the Ravenholm levels on HL2. The first time I played it, I can recall jumping back from the screen at times - those fast zombies were a bitch. Games like Doom3 I'm fine with, though. For me, they're too fast-paced to be considered scary.

Games like FEAR and RTCW (some of the zombie levels, first time I played them)

Yeah, also the Ravenholm level in HL2

Half-Life.

Alone.

In a dark room.

With headphones on.

Seriously... even HL2's Ravenholm didn't freak me out as much as the original did. Probably because that was the first game I ever seriously played that made such wonderful use of atmospheric effects (I could hear the headcrab running around... but I never saw it--the anticipation was murder).

F.E.A.R, especially towards the end, and Silent Hill games.

Condemned was pretty good to towards the end.

Doom 3 had the shock factor, but after a while you know the out of the way healthpack meant demon will jump put. FEAR actually made me jump back 2 or 3 times.

Doom was not scary. Everything was there for a scary game, but they did not get the monsters to be real scary. Ravenholm was great fun. It did not scare me since I was playing with the physics. Condemed was great. It was sort of scary since it is pitch black and some guy will run at you with a pipe and you have a 2x4. I guess I am not scared that easily...

The only game I ever jumped out of my seat scared from was Resident Evil 2 on the PS1. I think the scariest moment was when I was walking through an area I'd been through countless times with nothing happening (ho-hum) when suddenly something crashed in on me! I think I may have even let out a little girlie scream when that happened! :lookaround:

(edit: I just realized after reading MrFancyPant's post that it was RE2, not RE1) ;)

Fatal Frame. :( I've never been able to beat them. No other game has ever really scared me much, though.

Playing Resident Evil 2 on Playstation at night was a scary experience. Those "lickers" scared the hell out of me.

FEAR and HL2

Farcry scared me too sometimes. Once I climbed really high on a mountian to snipe all the monsters down there.. I thought id be safe there, So while I was zooming and sniping, really close to my computer screen, one of the monsters got on the mountain too and attacked me from behind. almost had a heart attack right then and there.
