I've been playing since release (and before), so I haven't been around pre-searing for awhile. However, the other day I got bored so decided to try out a new Mesmer. I was on the mission that sets you from Barradins Estate to Fort Ranik, and because this is a large journey, I decided to stop into Ashford Abbey and get someone to go with.
So, I pop in, and say "Looking for someone travelling to Fort Ranik".
I then get 5 PM's saying "How much will you pay?"
At first I was like "Huh?" and got replies saying "How much will you pay for a taxi to Ranik, n00b."
I replied to them saying "Umm, I don't want a 'taxi', but rather a campanion." and got no further replies.
I tried a new message "Looking for a companion travelling to Fort Ranik - Not a taxi" and noone replied. I ended up going through two districts before getting bored and going off on my own.
Taxis? Is this crazy - you can't even get a travelling compnaion these days without paying?
GW has gone down hill since release
ehh you must of seen this coming though. everyone just wanting gold and no one really playing i guess.. its almost like diablo 2, no one plays to do missions.. they just rush characters and do runs.
I took someone to a necro skill trainer (he needed it and he didn't know where he was), the skill trainer deep within the catacombs. Just for free. Asking money for it is crazy. I mean, its a game, and you can help other people. I've also seen a lot of lvl20's back in ascalon to help the "n00bies" out, and yes they ask money for it. It's just crazy, and I hate people who do it.

I keep a character in pre-searing specifically to help other people. As well as the fact that I just like it there... and to be honest, I haven't heard many people demanding money for such things. One or two, but not many. Most people seem pretty fine with helping for no fee. Guess I'm not just in the right district/server most of the time. I've done that 'Across the Wall' quest with people so many times now that I went from level 7.5 to level 10 just from killing the Charr mobs over there. Heh. I keep telling people not to attack anything with the label 'Charr' in its name, but do they listen? Of course not! It's probably possible to get higher than level 10 in pre-searing, but it'll take a while... though I'm sure people rushing the Charr mobs when they're woefully ill-equipped to handle them will push me across that level 11 milestone in no time. No. The biggest scam on the European pre-searing districts at the moment seems to be encouraging newbies who don't know any better to sell dye they've found for pitiful amounts like 10g. So if I see anything like that happening I just tell the guy how much they're actually worth. I know that some of the people offering the money are also newbies and also don't know any better. But I also know that a lot more people doing it aren't newbies and do know better... But hey, anyway, if people are continuing to demand money for their 'taxi services', it's pretty logical to assume that people are actually stupid enough to pay them in the first place, otherwise they wouldn't bother trying. If people weren't so gullible then things like this would probably never get popular in the first place.
Well taxis in Pre-Searing is just plain silly, I mean runners can help you I suppose but you don't even get sprint until post. I agree with helping people, the other day this guy was trying to get a guy to buy his armor filling him with crap, so I intervened and stopped it, the guy said he has no materials to get armor from the trader, so I helped him out :P.
i also help out in pre searing once in awhile, but i have to admit.. it does get boring in there after a lot of "taxiing" for people. but not to the point where i need any amount of gold.
i did presearing on my own, i never needed help. i actualy didnt need muc help at all from real players till 3 accension quests. i do find it strange alot of people try and make other pay for their services. personaly i think that paying should be like a tip, a thank you, not a must. only time i would see worth paying for someone is if thye were so much more powerful than me and their assitance would make a great difference in the mission to come. but being where i am, i AM the guy superior to others lol...
You play too??
What's your ingame name?
just let them go... just play the way you want to play... You'll meet good people ingame, who are not greedy ass hell.... Most of those are just 9/10 years old...
In pre - searing i dont really find anyone asking for money, when i was in pre searing i didnt know what the hell to do but some guy showed me. i keep one person in pre searing he is around lvl 8.
