SPOILERS BEWARE (*WARNING* these are my actual thoughts, i am not trolling) Ok, so far i've played nearly every valve game there is right now. The best being Opposing force, Blue shift, TFC, Half Life 1, Blue Shift and DOD:S. Just what is so great about Portal, whenever i ask this someone always goes up in arms and says "Why can't shooters be puzzle games?!", well, i have 3 words for you... IT'S A SHOOTER... I mean i really just found it to be an aggrivating 3 hours, the jokes weren't funny, the cake is a lie has to be the STUPIDEST ending that i've ever seen in a game, and the AI boss was just way too easy. The Verdict... Portal - Most over hyped, over rated game EVER Half life 2 (i had this before orange box and was ACTUALY excited about it) This has to be the most dissappointing out of all of them. The location for nearly the entire game sucked, it made me say to myself "god damn these levels are disgustingly boring and uncreative". The gravity gun... Alright, fine, the gravity gun WAS fun as hell, until the new toy came to play in Crysis (AKA the nanosuit, possibly the funnest tool in any game to date)... Then again, the Cerebral bore far surpasses anything in both of those games... Anyway, the decapitation was fun, until you realized that it only worked for the zombies (antlions only exploded, they were never truly decapitated) and oh god, were those antlion explosions ANNOYING, i mean honestly, a magnum is really going to make an animal explode? I hate to say it, but the music was good, very good, better then the original Half life's soundtrack, although soundtracks DONT make games. (unless ofcourse it's audiosurf or guitar hero :P) Verdict... Half Life 2 - Over Hyped, Over rated game that leaves a bad taste in your mouth Ohhh boy, here it comes, Half life 2 Episode 2... For FAR too long have i heard people praising this game, saying it's the best game ever (then a minute later saying portal was the best game ever). Well i got news for ya, THIS GAME IS PATHETIC. What new weapons did they add? What new elements did they implement? They added hunters... That's what everyone was so hyped about? Fighting these stubborn bastards? There such bs, it takes over 100 rounds to kill one of them but ramming them, not even with turbo on or even going really fast towards them kills them instantly? Is this a joke? The graphics which everyone praises so much aren't even that good or even that much of an improvement atleast. I can't decide which is worse, playing the game, or hearing someone claim it to be the next christ. Although somewhat better locations then HL2, some levels will just have you yelling "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THAT'S THE BEST THEY COULD COME UP WITH?" I mean for gods sake, you spend atleast 3 levels in of tunnels... MABYE EVEN MORE THEN THAT. Verdict... Half Life 2 Episode 2 - Utter Crap You thought half life 2 ep2 was bad? Wait till you hear what i have to say about this god almight hunk of crap shoved back up a kangaroos ass (Rip off of the Angry video game nerd). Half life 2 Ep1 has to be the largest dissappointment in gaming history, every level seems like the last one, and when they do change locations, they do it in some quick way, as if they couldn't transition the change in environment good enough for the player to like it or believe it so theres always some oddly placed elevator or some crap like that leading to a new type of atmosphere. In fact, all of the Half lifes from half life 2 and up have done that, mabye it's because there map designs were so horrible they didn't know how to change em from one location to the other so they made up the most unbelievable stunts which you wouldn't even think Duke Nukem himself would be able to pull off yet some lame ass scientist in a suit built to deal with radiation ONLY, can some how accomplish this (in reference to all of the games as a whole). Verdict... Half Life 2 Episode 1 - Not worthy or bearing the title game What can i say, about Team Fortress 2... OH, how about the biggest thing out of them all, they took away grenades... I mean honestly, everyone keeps saying "THERE WAS NO STRATEGY WITH THEM *SNORT SNORT*" Ummm, yea? That's why there were specific types of grenades that had different effects on the enemy... Honestly, the grenades added LOTS of strategy into it, it's just that those noobs didn't know HOW to use them in a strategic way. The lag is also pretty pathetic too. This game has become a basic rush war and a "WHO CAN WEAPON SPAM THE MOST" contest. Verdict... Team Fortress 2 - Tonka Trucks online is better then this garbage Please god.... Let Left 4 dead atleast be SOMEWHAT good...

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but that's very odd. I don't think you give VALVe enough credit for what they've done. I'm going to continue enjoying it.

I think they did a great job with all the games they made BEFORE HL2.

So, just CS, TF, and HL?

Because that's pretty much what's in The Orange Box, excluding CSS.

I thought Orange Box was one of the best things I bought. Half Life 2 was just an amazing game, I love the atmosphere in the game. H2E1 was alright I guess, probably the worst of the games. It was really short, but still not all that bad. I thought E2 was pretty good, longer than EP1 and some fun maps. Portal was pretty cool, but man they could of made it MUCH longer. I agree that the jokes weren't that amusing and the computer was really easy to defeat, but I really enjoyed trying to figure some of the puzzles like in challenge and advanced modes. Team Fortress 2 was probably the best out of it. Fun game all around, many classes to choose from with completely different functions and abilites. I played it for a long while but ever since I got call of duty 4 I haven't gone back to it, still a really great game.

Valve is one of my favorite game makers, good quality and fun in all games. Not every game is about the graphics quality and not every game will have a nanosuit... If every game had something similar to a nanosuit or the same graphics, things would get boring real fast.

This is probably the scariest thread ever. Who the hell is so uneducated and moronic that five games for the price of one doesn't seem good? Ok, I got that out of the way. Just had to. Yeah, I have to admit, the games don't seem so great alone, ESPECIALLY Team Fortress 2. But together, they make a great package that should not be missed. It is really unfortunate that you don't like The Orange Box, it's the best deal on the video game market right now. Disregard the above, it's a little thing I like to call "sarcasm". Edit: Come to think of it, it would be sweet if The Orange Box came with a Garry's Mod for consoles. Just putting that out for consideration.

You have to understand that at the time HL2 was released, it was a brilliant game (and still is). The physics, AI, and graphics were awesome, and still are. If you've just now started playing HL2, and have played more recent games, you probably wouldn't be impressed. Personally, i found HL2 to be fun, innovative, and very gripping story-wise. It sounds like you went into playing the game with the intention of not enjoying it no matter what. Just give it a chance, man. Don't be so quick to put it down because of "bad level design" which seems to be your main problem.

Seriously...if Half-Life 2 doesn't impress you, I don't know what it takes.

You seem to focus on very small things and then claim the game is "pathetic" and not like Crysis. I can't actually believe someone would call something like Half Life 2 pathetic...what's there not to like? The story is among the best in video games. The gravity gun...physics...AI etc. were (back then) really impressive and still hold well today. The episodes are merely expanding on the formula and introducing something new each time, and of course expanding the great story. I can understand if it's not to your taste, but to actually call something pathetic when theres clearly so much effort gone into it by one of the best developers.....As for Portal... it's a game that actually innovates. I think you are entirely missing the point of the game...it's a puzzle games...with humour, and serves as part of the story of the next HL episode. It's not a traditional "shooter" which shoudl be rather obvious. And finally...your getting like 5 games for the price of one.

Comparing it to Crysis? Well, it doesn't have the insane engine Crysis has, but it does have something called a "plot", which certainly helps.

Portal wasn't meant for the stereotypical Counterstrike fan, Portal was meant for those who wanted a puzzle game.

You expected antlions to be decapitated? unlike the zombies, they have something called an "exoskeleton", which doesn't really allow damage to be localized like an endoskeleton does (on an endoskeleton, you break a rib, on an exoskeleton, you break the whole damn thorax). It'd make more sense for them to explode or at least have messy chunks taken out, not a neat decapitation. What's so impossible about the level transitions in HL2? I've not encountered a scene that made me go, "wait, that's impossible" (besides the goddamn locked wooden doors being a greater obstacle than the entire Combine).
