I LOVE strategy games. Always have, always will. I think the original Civilization is the best game ever made. #2: StarCraft.

But what happened? Where did they all go? And no, I DONT want to play another medieval/roman/whateverhistoricalcrap strategy game. I'm talking about Dune, Warcraft, Warwind, Starcraft. I want an RTS with a bunch of factions with cool storylines, lots of single player missions, and a minimal amount of micromanagement.

I have yet to find a good RTS game since StarCraft (warcraft 3 was... ok. but too many RPG elements for me)

I just bought Earth 2160, and I have high hopes for it... but, does anyone have anything they can suggest? Are there good RTS games out there that I'm missing?

Personally, I didn't really think there were alot of RPG elements in Warcraft 3. Just three, Leveling, items, and abilities. Theres one called Warlords Battlecry II, that doesn't really have a storyline, its a conquer the world campaign with a bunch of different factions. 1. Daemons (Rule) 2. Humans. 3. I think theres some knight race. 4. Undead 5. High Elf 6. Wood Elf 7. Dark Elf 8. Fey (Gay) 9.Barbarians 10. Minotaurs 11. Dwarves 12. Orcs I think thats it.

Well, someone put engineers in the lead and, since they like shiny graphics, all we now get are frag'em'up first-person shooters. With the exception of Civ4, Black and White 2, Space Rangers 2, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. (Notice they all are sequels or sequels sequels.) That was pretty much everything 2005 had to offer in the PC-game area...

Dawn of War (as already mentioned) is a brilliant RTS game, top graphics and gameplay (If you like Science-Fiction of Warhammer it is a must get), hell, if you like RTS games, it is a must get :p As for new(er) ones: http://www.eawfiles.com not released yet, though is to be in Feburary, and by god, you look at it *stunning*

How come so many RTS games are just newer versions the same old thing? About half of the RTS games that come out seem to be 'Age of Empire With Shiny Bits'. Bascially, they seem to be improvements on AoE2, but without anything drastically new.[There are of course plenty of kick ass RTS games like Dawn of War]
