Think, would Multiplayer work in Bioshock? I thought so. Plus, the Singleplayer is so strong, it doesn't need MP.

Literally, probably because the scope of the single-player side of things is so large that 2K Boston and Australia (Irrational) decided to just devote their time on a single-player experience. It took Irrational about 2-3 years for Bioshock to come out, imagine if they tried to put that much devotion into a multiplayer counterpart for Bioshock? They may not have done things to the extent that they did in Bioshock, but it still would have taken more time.

Plus, like badhairday said, it wouldn't work. The overall idea created could be cool, plasmids and so many different tonics would allow for a lot of variance like in Call of Duty 4. But maps, and technical difficulties would probably arise.

And Bioshock is a game all about the quality in gaming and the art that can be found in it. It is about innovation and the fade away from commercialism and corridor shooters. And when I say "corridor shooters" I don't just mean by being restricted to certain paths and hallways. I'm talking about variance in what you can do. And finding all of that in Bioshock doesn't just take an effort from developers, but also from the players themselves. And on the multiplayer side of things, you won't find that effort so easily. In an article about Bioshock pitted against Halo 3, and why one game was better than the other. The article is actually an argument between Gamesradar's Editor in Chief, and Xbox 360 magazine's Editor in Chief. And it was said that Bioshock is better than Halo 3 because of MULTIPLAYER!

Gamesradar: "Many games fail because they try to do too much. Because Ken Levine’s team at 2K Boston (formerly Irrational Games) was liberated from the need to tick a box on some idiotic marketing document, they were free to prime and polish the single player campaign into a taut and terrifying experience. I’m not going to miss multiplayer at all. If I want 12 year-olds pretending to squat on my face while screaming “Lick it, bitch!” I have any number of games that will yield a near-identical experience. I’m much more interested in BioShock’s fascinatingly twisted story. The only story you’d hear in multiplayer is about what your mom did last night."

Xbox 360 Magazine: "BioShock has NO multiplayer. The Halo series has the most popular multiplayer of all time, and for good reason. On this aspect, no argument is needed. If you want to play with your friends online and you can only buy one game, you have to go with Halo 3."

Now this article may be a bit older, but if the Xbox 360 editor still has the same argument, I honestly have to argue: Call of Duty 4 has become much more popular than Halo 3 in a lot of cases. I hear about COD4 more than I do Halo 3 now. That is quite an achievement for Infinity Ward, and I personally tip my hats in their direction.

Here's the article.

Basically what he's saying is that there's no multiplayer because 2K Games wanted to make the Singleplayer as good as it can be.

The SP is good enough, a multi player component would end up feeling rushed, kind like how Doom 3's MP was thrown in there and was ignorable. If there is a Bioshock 2 then they may consider it.

There will be a Bioshock 2. But it might wind up a bit different than expected. Ken Levine, the creative designer, the guy that kind of thought up a majority of the stuff in Bioshock, is apparently a pain to work with. But 2K got a butt load of cash out of Bioshock and would definitely like to see greater projects to come. So they split up the Bioshock team, put Ken Levine on an unnamed project "Project X", and the rest of the team to work on Bioshock 2.

I'm looking for the article to back it up. I saw it somewhere.

Here's one, an unapproved, but quite possible rumor. It says the contributor is quite often correct in her rumors. Seems 2K let the team build an entirely new studio for Bioshock 2.

From Gamespot, more information, same source.

You can find more on Google. Type "Ken Levine Project X". You'll get plenty.
