Has anyone else noticed this is a frequently occurring issue with first person shooters? For instance, anyone who has fired a shotgun in real life knows it's a loud boom, not a muffled little pop.
Any examples, chuck?

a lot of games do a lot of research into their gun sounds, i really haven't noticed a lot of bad ones
Lol actually I have. Have ever of you heard a real weapon sound anything like the weapons in counter-strike do?
Remember BF1942, any of you ever shot the BAR? Sounded like a bloody pea shooter. I hate these shitty sounds effects they digitally create for weapons sometimes. Even if they can't make it sound to repetitive to listen to they still need to actually sound a little like the real thing.
Ive never herd a reall gun before well once and i dont see any problem with the sounds i like the Doom3 gun sounds.
Best examples are BF2 and COD2 all of the weapons sound piss weak, and they really give me the shits. It's great when you play a game and all of the sound effects are loud and explosive, feels a lot more realistic. I have a big problem with weak sound effects.

You know... Doom3 does have realistic sounds... IF you are not the one shooting the gun. Stand a good distance away from someone firing a gun like the machine gun in Doom 3, and it sounds like that. But, if you actually hold and shoot the gun yourself, it sounds very different. It's much louder, and a lower pitched sound, not a bunch of little pops. The sound of the machine gun in the game reminds me of when I toss my loose change into a peanut can... XD
Doom 3's weapon sounds sucked to be honest with you. Most under-powered weapon sounds i've heard in a while but it's mainly due to them not sounding as powerfull as they should and being all quiet.
Oh also anyone remember the SMG from the first Half-Life? Sounded like a typewriter
Something else that kind of makes me mad is the recioil for the weapons. They are not realistic at all, especially in the call of duty games. I found this especially true for the Springfield and the mosin nagant, which have powerful recoil, but in the game it looks like your shooting a .22
I know its not an fps, but the sounds of some of the guns in GTA:SA are rubbish:dpistols: :aug:
