I didn't make it!
I'd like to mention a new MMO project by Wargaming.net (Do you remember Order of War?) World of Tanks. The game is very promissing. It can't be called a true historical game but the tank models corresponds to their historical prototypes (machines of 30-50s). Details can be found here: World of Tanks ? Free Action MMO Game Also a trailer from youtube: YouTube - World of Tanks Debut Teaser
Tanks = win. Science Fact.
So the whole game is just tanks?
It would be nice to have pure tank combat without having to worry about planes, infantry, and artillery, because Germany would always win. :evilgrin:
Unless Russia was playing.

Um no, Russian tanks aren't that good.
In the 20, 30s Russia had some very good tanks, however with the arrival of the Czech Skoda[Later Panzer 38(t)] or w/e the hell it was originally called, Russia falling behind. Britain and France soon came out with very good Infantry/Heavy, Cruiser/Light, and Medium tanks. German tank designs were also improving by late 30s. German tanks had only 1 clear advantage, radios. They were out gunned and out armored. By 1941 the Russians had come out with 2 revolutionary tanks. The KV-1 which was an excellent heavy tank for its time having incredibly thick armor for the time, a good gun for the time, and decent mobility, although there were issues with the transmission. The other was the T-34/76, which was an amazing Medium tank, balancing speed with firepower and armor.
However, by 1942 Germany had the Panzer IV Ausf G and StuG Ausf G, Russian tanks were out gunned, soon Tigers and Panther joined the ranks. Russian armor was being crushed, the T-34/85 was a warm welcome, having thicker turret armor and a better gun. However it was still easy pray for German armor, as it was still inferior. The Russians only produced 2 new tanks there on. The IS-1 which was roughly equal to the Tiger, inferior firepower though. And the IS-2 a good heavy tank, but Inferior to the Tiger II, and still vulnerable to Tiger Is, Panthers, and other German AFVs.
There's your lesson in armored warfare on the eastern front, simplified. German AFVs>Russian AFVs.

The Russians had a different sort of advantage. There was approximately 4.2 billion Russian tanks per German tank. Quantity has a quality all its own. 4200000000 Russian AFVs > 1 German AFV.

Lets try to be reasonable. While the Russians had quantity, German AFVs and AT guns generally had a pretty good kill ratio, thus in pure tank vs tank combat, Germany wins by far.
The German armor fleet was made up of mostly Panzer IVs, which were more than susceptible to the T-34/85.

Professor Dr. Scientist knows no reason. He is reason enough himself.
