I have been trying to figure out a good way to balance out the scimitar in a game of A2. I thought it may be possible to have it have its SpecialEnergy=0 when it is finished being build and have it take 15 minutes to fully charge, but I don't see it as an option in the Big Book of Modding. Any ideas???

All vessels that have special energy start out at maxSpecialEnergy and as far as I know, there is no way to change this. However, you could engage the cloak and make the cloak a draining energy weapon.

Let me explain: like the original transwarp portal used in Armada I, the weapon could cost special energy just to stay operational. To the cloaking device, add the line "drainRate = #" where # exceeds the Scimitar's normal specialEnergyRate line. This way, with the cloak up, the Scimitar will lose special energy at a constant rate. Just keep in mind that if the cloak costs too much special energy at the outset (say, 50% of the total SE), it may be impossible to engage the Theleron Cannon (assuming this is the weapon which you wish to charge-up).

Here's an example:

"Main Scimitar .odf file" maxSpecialEnergy = 2000 specialEnergyRate = 2

"Theleron Cloak .odf file" specialEnergyCost = 100 drainRate = 3

This way the cloaking device can stay active for a long time but not forever. If you let it drain all the way down, the ship will stay cloaked but the SE will be effectively at zero. From this point on, you can decloak the Scimitar and charge-up the Theleron Cannon (since the Scimitar was decloaked anyway when it was going to use it on the Enterprise).

Hope this is of some help to you.

Good idea, And most people would cloak the ship to travel anyways. If you only have one shot per 15 minutes that would make sense to drain it, but with it draining on the way, I would probably bring the recharge up to 7 minutes (per the movie).

I am using SteffanClass Scimitar with the Theleron beam patch.

To be perfectly honest with you, I don't really use the Scimitar except as a hero unit and therefore used the first Scimitar model that came onto this site. If you want to find the best Scimitar model, the best thing to do is d/l them all (it doesn't take up much memory, just a little bit of time) and find the one that suits you best. I know that Phantom's is pretty good and Iggy's looks the most like the Scimitar at rest (without wings unfurled). But you are the final judge on which one is the best.
