This is what I am trying to do. I want to make a special weapon for galaxy class starships. I have taken the "phaser.odf" and "phasero.odf". I have copied and renamed them so that they match the name of the weapon I am trying to make. I have edited a few of the properties inside primarily to make the blast bigger, last longer, and do more damage. Now, to make a basic weapon, is there anything more than that I should have to do? Once I put it in my galaxy.odf it should fire automatical just like the regular phaser and photo torpedos, right?

My goal is to do a couple of other things with this weapon. Once I've got it working, I would like to make it a special weapon and then get a button so that it is selectable. This is the tricky part though. Rather than costing specialEnergy (or whatever), I want it to drain the engine power (cause damage to the engines) for as long as the beam is firing.

Does anyone know what I am trying to get myself into? Does anyone know if it is even possible? If so, I would really appreciate some help on this mod. The thing is though, I guess I don't want it to be too specific because I would like this to be my first mod that maybe I could submit to the site or whatever (assuming it is possible and worth a damn). Thanks all.

well,i am going to try to make my first mod today also!i'm not going to do anything that advanced though.you might want to ask how to do that on one of those other modder's mod'scomment things.

Well, I got the first part right:D. I made the basic weapon. It fires from the right hard point, its a pretty big blast (and long too:D). For an automatic more devistating phaser it is great but that is as far as I've been able to get thus far.

Of course, with that little bit out of the way I still have to figure out how to make it drain engine energy as opposed to special energy:(. I guess I need a d@mn button too ... >_<.

Back to the drawing board for the hard shittle.

Myself, I'm trying to make a torpedo, preferable to go with my previous mods. Its top-secret (I'm paranoid that someone'll get there first :S) but its one nobody's done yet from the Voyager series. Problem is, I've got all the coding right (so far as I can tell), I add it to the Defiant (it was used as a testbed for new torpedoes in the Trek Universe, so I decided to carry it on), and the second the Defiant finishes construction the game crashes back to desktop. WHY?! :assimilate:

sorry i dont know if the engine thing can be done, but the button part wont be to hard.... go to stgn and find multi-targeting phaser (i think) someone there should tell you how to convert the thing... and matt, about ur torp, check you pms...
