Just reinstalled RtCW, and downloaded WW (:D) I have the "Extended Platinum Edition", and im sure I need to patch the game. Ive tried both the "wolf_update_1_4.exe" and the "wolf_update_1_41.exe" but get the error message "setup could not locate a version of RTCW on your system". Ive definately installed it, bu maybe im running the wrong patch versions, how do I check my current game version? Thanks (PS Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum, I couldnt see a "Help" section)

Saint - Go to the link in my signature and then go to downloads. Once there download version 1.5. You do not need the other files you mention. Only 1.5 and you will be off and shooting!!

Let me know if this helps ya.

"setup could not locate a version of RTCW on your system"

Thats again one of these terible selfinstallers which are thinking they are more intelligent as the user.

But you have luck - you can unzip these installers manually and copy the files to the right places:

- unzip wolf_update_1_41.exe

- copy all *.pk3 files to your ..../RTCW/Main

- copy CGAME_MP_X86.DLL QAGAME_MP_X86.DLL UI_MP_X86.DLL also to .../RTCW/Main

-copy WOLFMP.EXE to .../RTCW

-all other files goes to thrashcan

Thats all.

(BTW as I wrote in another thread aleready - to play WildWest you would need only WOLFMP.EXE and the WildWestmod)

Rudi_alias_Rudi-all other files goes to thrashcan

maybe you need also to copy the PunkBuster DLLs to .../RTCW/PB dont know exatly maybe PB uptates it by itself anyway - just try it out

You are right you dont need the whole update to play WildWest. But IMO its a good Idea to update at least wolfmp.exe to 1.41. Furthermore I would guess that if wolf_update.exe cannot find your Wolf-installation then wildwest-1.5.exe wil not find your RTCW installation too, So you shoud unzip it manually similar like I described above. You just need these files: cgame_mp_x86.dll qagame_mp_x86.dll ui_mp_x86.dll ww_bin1505.pk3 ww_pak1505.pk3

in a .../RTCW/WildWest folder

Okay, im pretty confused now.

Lets run through this...

I installed fresh, from the box "RtCW Platinum Edition" (It has ET on the disk too).

I have downloaded WW 1.5 (not yet installed), but your website says I need to patch up to 1.41 before.

Im pretty certain (but I may be wrong) that the version I have installed, straight from the box is not 1.41, as it does not have Punkbuster.

I need to find what version my "from the box" install is, so I can download the corresponding patches to get me up to 1.41.

If someone could direct me in the right way, it would be cool.

@ Rudi. I tried your method, but all the files I were copying into the folders, were already there, the exact same sizes too, which would suggest I am at the correct version already.

@ Bite Me. Dont worry mate, I have read your post, but are you sure im already at the correct version of RtCW?

when ever i do a fresh install, i just reinstall vers: 1.3, 1.4 & 1.41; then install WW. i have these vers saved to a backup disc, but 1.4 & 1.41 are still avail at www.rtcwfiles.com (i don't believe 1.3 is listed anymore)...i don't think that installing a patch version, even if you already have that version on your computer would hurt anything. once it's all installed, go ahead and run the WildWest, and there you are... bob's your uncle

Hm that seems so but to be sure you had to conpare the md5sums of these files.

Just start the game, the first line in console output shows you the version number: wolfmp Wolf 1.41-MP linux-i386 Dec 4 2002 ----- FS_Startup ----- [....]

To be able to see this first line start the game in commandline or open RTCW console and scroll up with PgUp or mouswheel.
