First off, for anyone reading this thread, El Dragon posted an etiquette guide here:
http://gaminguk.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=2043 Which outlines some tactics and etiquette for the different maps. Also, those of us on the development team, in cooperation with the server admins, try very hard to keep the servers clear of bad language and unnecessary flaming. Everyone should have noticed the broadcast messages on most of the WW servers by now. As for fair play, there are thousands of ideas as to what constitutes fair play, and this varies according to the circumstances. There is no way anyone could ever create a list of what is fair and what is not, kind of like life. Glory As Esteban, you are entitled to your opinion as to what is fair and what is not. I would suggest that during future gaming sessions, you state your opinions in a more diplomatic way, without curse words included. Players who swear are asked to stop; if they continue they will be kicked or banned. We have had numerous discussions about player's tactics, and what is appropriate on a public server as opposed to a private clan server, or during a "match" scrim. Generally speaking, the more cutthroat a player is, the more likely they are to be called a "dirty player". I enjoy playing all areas of the maps. You will find that if I am playing defense and the other team is being thoroughly trounced (for example, 6 minutes left in the Town map, and the stable flag has not been taken yet), I will suggest we fall back and let them have the flag. I see no point in humiliating an opponent or rubbing their nose in defeat. Besides, I like playing the "firefight at the bank". Personally, I very seldom leave the area inside the Hacienda wall, unless it is to disarm the dynamite. The map is hard enough without being gunned down in the area between the fence and the canal. But, many players do jump down and start patrolling the desert, and they are not wrong for doing so, unless they jump the fence, which constitutes spawn camping. Glory, I don't think anyone has questioned your skill as a player. But, your approach to the other players on the servers could be a little less confrontational. Many of us use TeamSpeak when we play. There are several TS servers to choose from. Mine, P00h's, and Angel Eyes. You are welcome to join us on any of them. @Rebel: "nobody enjoys being called names, especially from someone he/she doesn't know, in a community where very few people know other gamers personally!" I disagree. I think you will find that this particular gaming community is pretty tightly knit, and LOTS of players know LOTS of other players personally, more so I think than any other online game you will play.
(i got the impression that alot of the players in the WW know each other well, but speaking from my point of view, i don't know any of yas personally, cept for hfx-hairya$$, but i grew up with him. and snake an deadeye, because i've had long pm's/msn/icq conversations with them)
i guess that what i was tryin to say is that, if say, solid snake were to say "u suck! when ya gonna learn how to play?" or "you spend enuf time face down in the dirt, you could be a speed bump!" or something like that. it would have a whole different meaning then it would coming from a newbie player. i don't know about anybody else, but something like this coming from someone i've only seen in a server once or twice, and have never spoken to, would be an insult!
It all comes down to "knowing your audience".
Rebel you are a good player. If I had a dollar for everytime I got dispatched that way Id have a lot of money! I like playing with you. I have been whined at by the same player and I find it hillarious that someone gets so worked up over something so minor. I've played where I spawn, run, and die over and over. I don't whine about it though. Somebody bitched at me last night because I didn't revive them. I here em call sometimes but they never show up on my compass. I try to find them though. Usually I get killed befor I ever get there. My point is there are a few that just don't get it and I suspect they never will.
Hope to play with you again soon Jeff
well thank you tom, bong (incidently, i have to smirk everytime i read your name! lol), hacko, skins and queeg, i had hoped i wasn't a crappy player! but... "one tends to always hold oneself in a higher reguard moreso then others do" and jeff, hope to play with/against you soon aswell, but for now, my gameplay (for now) is limited to a little when i get home at nite and the weekends! and thnx iggy for bringing the 'gam-etiquette' to our attention! lets hope it gets used!

I agree :nodding:. I have also experienced that when you are playing well on a server and people accuse you of cheating and not playing fair. I really hate it and I try to ignore it as much as possible. And if you want to disable chat messages, the console command is: /cg_teamchattime 0 But be sure to set the 0 back to 8000 when you are done!hfx_rebelu suck! when ya gonna learn how to play?" or "you spend enuf time face down in the dirt, you could be a speed bump!"
Heh Heh, the second one is kinda funny . Except if I were saying it I would try to use my best spelling and grammar :).

I never knew about this guide before! And like Rebel says "Lets hope it gets used!" <---- I agree! :)
Cheers, Solid Snake
hi rebel...i dont see any problems with going over the wall to protect the 2 points. this to me is fair play. its not spawn killing and your defending an objective.
where it would not be fair to do is if you side outnumbered the other side.
I think you are a good player and enjoy playing with you!!
